  1. I would say try to be supportive as possible as a friend, but above all else take care of number one (YOURSELF) first. Don't ruin your career for the benefit of someone else.
  2. I'm a 2nd semester student and I was told that an NCLEX review book/program would help me study for tests. I would like a good computer program (I can just stick in my lap top and carry around) with lots of NCLEX questions. Anyone know of a GOOD one that is easy to use that I could get faily quickly. I have seen several at B&N, but I don't know which one to get. Any suggestions???
  3. Mine was included in my tuition. I didn't even realize I had it. However, I think its smart. I've been a CNA for 8 years and family members are always threatening to sue just because their emotions run high.
  4. My school does not have a wait list either. It is all based on a point system. I had never even heard of a wait list until my best friend moved to Iowa. All she had to do was get the required C in her basics and they put her on a list. I had to compete to get my spot in oklahoma.
  5. Thank goodness my school doesn't require this. That is ridiculous. Its totally different seeing a patient naked and seeing one of your classmates. I would think that could become really akward. I think I would be so nervous I couldn't concentrate on what we were trying to learn. The only thing we did in relation to that this semster was when our group did BS one of our male clinical mates lifted his shirt so we could listen better. In this case the instructor ASKED his permission before doing so. They even had a rule that male students were not allowed to assess breath sounds of female students.
  6. The nursing home he is at is sending him to a mental health facility for three weeks so that his meds can be adjusted. However, I'm trying to push our family to bring in someone from the outside to evaluate him as well.
  7. Thank you guys so much for your input. It has been very helpful and I have a better idea of what steps to take.
  8. Hello! I'm a first semester nursing student, but I don't know much about hospice. I have some questions I hope you might be able to help me with. My Grandfather was recently diagnosed with alzheimers. He was diagnoses only a few months ago and his condition seems like it is rapidly declining. Two weeks after he was diagnosed he became incontinent and had to be placed in a nursing home. He no longer recognizes family and he has been combative with the nursing staff. According to his doc he is at the end of the middle stage of his illness. My questions are should we consider hospice? If so, at what point in his illness would he be eligable? If we decide that we should utilize hospice what things should we look for before picking one? Any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated. My family is looking to me information, but this is not something I know a lot about. Thank YOU!
  9. The 12hr shifts are tough at first, but you'll end up loving the extra days off. I always get into that afternoon slump at 3p. What helps me is an orange(citrus helps wake me up) and a teaspoon of peanutbutter. Nothing like a few carbs and a shot of protein to do a body good!
  10. I'm first semester at osu-okc. As first semester students we are in class two days a week and clinical once every other week. I think it changes each semester.
  11. FYI I got in with 80pts and a 3.29 GPA....scored 80% on HESI entrance exam
  12. I'm at OSU OKC. I love it there. You should check it out!
