OCCC Fall 2013 Admissions

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Hello All!

I am currently getting my nursing school application together for OCCC's (Oklahoma City Community College) Traditional Pathway Nursing application deadline in April. I just wanted to put some feelers out to see who of you out there are also applying, and to see how we are all doing on our points. I have yet to take my TEAS test (I'll be taking it next week), and I am about to do clinicals to finish up my CNA (to get a preference point). If all goes well, I should be sitting at 18 points with a 3.27 GPA. I heard that the traditional pathway applicants for spring of 2012 had higher preference points, and GPA's than ever before. (DON'T Quote me, but I think it was something like 17 points, and a 3.3GPA) Regardless, it was higher than usual. The spring has, in the past, had less points required for admission than Fall. This was a little disconcerting to me, as I fear I am cutting it close. However, I have also heard that the BADNAP program, (which, in the past, has not even had enough applicants to fill its positions), has accepted applicants without all pre-requisites completed by the application deadline (as required in the past). This year, they are accepting applicants who will have pre-requisites completed before the start of the program. My hope is that this will ease up some tension on the traditional pathway applicants. Have any of you heard anything else? How are your points? What have you been doing to get extra points? Please feel free to share anything you may have struggled with about the process, and any support you would like to share. Good luck to us all!

What scares me is how many of you are applying with 18+ points because I'm sure there are many others who have 17 like me, but a higher GPA. They DO go off of the Retention/Retentive GPA and not cumulative, right?[/quote']

I'm not sure about what GPA they use, but they will tell you which one they are using in your confirmation email-which can come, Any. Day. Now. Lol.

I've done the math. If they have about 300 applicants (as they have in fall semesters past) and divide that by three weeks,(if we "expect" the emails Friday) that leaves us with 100/week. Divide by two people entering in info, makes fifty a week. Divide that by five work days, and that just leaves 10 applicants to count points on, and enter in info, per day! Totally do-able! If we don't see the emails by Friday, I will be surprised (in a very bad way). Good luck to all! Hang in there!

I talked to him yesterday. He's waiting on records to get him some documents on transfer students, he said it could be any day, but it could take a week. He said he's thinking about not doing the confirmation email/letter, and just going straight to accept/regret letters.

@sylviabee I agree with you. I talked to him today and we should get emails by Monday and non accepted people will have letters mailed out Monday too for those accepted into the 1+1 program. So it's sooooo close now!! Good luck. I've list hope since I only had 16 points but we shall see how many alternates are accepted as well. Maybe I will fall into that category lol

By MONDAY? OMG my heart is racing.

@sylviabee. MINE TOO!! ;) I doubt I get in, but I'd love to see if I'm at last an alternate lol

Someone should call Friday afternoon and ask what the cutoff is :)

PS- is anyone else having a heart attack every time OCCC sends out an email about weather or tornado drills? UGH

Ahh, yes!!!! Now is not the time for weather alerts!!!

I'm assuming that everyone that applied got the email stating that your application had been received? About gave me a heart attack seeing an email from admissions.

I hope patience isn't required for nursing school. I have NONE. I'm stalking this board just as much as my email, hoping someone has news!

Uh no, I got nothing saying my application was received?! Now I'm panicking..

It was kinda hidden among weather alerts...I didn't notice it until today. (It was sent on Wednesday)

It just said that no changes to the application were allowed and that this email was in no indication of admission into the program. Kinda weird, huh?
