  1. I took A&P2 and micro (along with 2 other classes) last semester. It's a lot to handle at once, but not as hard as the actual nursing program itself, in my opinion. It's a good trial run to get a very small idea of the time and commitment required in the nursing program.
  2. In A&P our grade was only based on tests. There was no homework or other assignments. In my math classes, homework was done online, and started from Day 1. I don't think it counted for a big percent of our grade, but if you didn't do the homework, you wouldn't know the material and do well on tests. On the first day of all classes we reviewed the syllabus, then jumped right into lecture. Summer classes move fast, and there is a lot to cover in a short period.
  3. Koko, we have to respond by May 8, but that won't mean much to alternates, most likely. I'm in the same position as you are with badnap. I am wait list #10, so I applied for fall and was accepted. This is what the man in admissions told me: Every single person accepted by the deadline. People start dropping out around the time of orientation. Either because they can't get finances, requirements in order, or they go a different direction. By orientation you will have had to spend a lot of money on vaccines, CPR class, background check, insurance, etc. He told me some people walk out of orientation and they immediately get on the phone and call alternates. He said they accept alternates up until the first day of classes. I hope I get in badnap so that I make another opening in the fall program for you! The fall orientation is in July. Good luck!
  4. I sent you the link in a private message. I hope that works!
  5. It isn't letting me add you that way. Try typing the address manually to facebook dot com slash groups slash 112227412314499 slash I hope that doesn't violate the terms of service since it is not a link. :-)
  6. I made a Facebook group: OCCC Nursing Class of May 2015
  7. Sylvia, did you already make a facebook group? If not, I'll make one.
  8. Just got my email. I'm in!
  9. Every time my phone "swooshes" (indicating I have an email) my heart skips a beat!
  10. I got the same letter a month ago, but friends of mine that applied close to the deadline didn't get a confirmation letter. I wouldn't worry about not getting one.
  11. I hope patience isn't required for nursing school. I have NONE. I'm stalking this board just as much as my email, hoping someone has news!
  12. Hi Megan, I've also applied for the fall semester at OCCC. I'm finishing up the last of my prerequisites right now. I would advise you to go for it, as far as taking micro is concerned. Nursing school requires way more studying and time away from home, so that could be a good way to ease back into school, and for your family to get used to your new responsibilities. Have you taken pharmacology, overview of nursing and medical terminology already? What about the other prerequisites? If you are taking micro just to get the 3rd science preference point, you might consider (as a quick and easier alternative) taking general biology during the May or August intercession. It is all online and lasts two weeks. I have friends who took it for that very reason. I agree with what snb said about the class schedules. If you start in the spring you will have evening classes the entire program. I've heard people in the spring program say that they chose morning clinical slots, though. 15 points is a long-shot. 17 points with a 3.5 would make you a shoe-in for the spring program. Good luck to you!
  13. Thanks for the updates, Sylvia and rn2be! I hope everyone on this thread gets in and we get to all meet at orientation. :-)
  14. I sure hope that "he" is telling people 5-6 weeks because he is getting a lot of inquiries. I can only imagine how many calls, visits and emails (from myself included) he must be getting! Last year it was just him tallying all the points and doing all the work. When I applied he told me that this year he has someone helping him (for the first time) and he will be able to get through them much quicker. I hope that hasn't changed! Waiting is torture! I'm glad we have this forum to vent on! :-) Good luck to us all!
  15. I know I will have enough points to get in the fall, but if I was waitlisted and was offered the 1+1, I would do it in a heartbeat! (Assuming the costs are in line with OCCC.)
