A&P II and Microbiology...At The Same Time! (oh my)
I took A&P2 and micro (along with 2 other classes) last semester. It's a lot to handle at once, but not as hard as the actual nursing program itself, in my opinion. It's a good trial run to get a very small idea of the time and commitment required in the nursing program.

Homework on first day?
In A&P our grade was only based on tests. There was no homework or other assignments. In my math classes, homework was done online, and started from Day 1. I don't think it counted for a big percent of our grade, but if you didn't do the homework, you wouldn't know the material and do well on tests. On the first day of all classes we reviewed the syllabus, then jumped right into lecture. Summer classes move fast, and there is a lot to cover in a short period.

OCCC Fall 2013 Admissions
Koko, we have to respond by May 8, but that won't mean much to alternates, most likely. I'm in the same position as you are with badnap. I am wait list #10, so I applied for fall and was accepted. This is what the man in admissions told me: Every single person accepted by the deadline. People start dropping out around the time of orientation. Either because they can't get finances, requirements in order, or they go a different direction. By orientation you will have had to spend a lot of money on vaccines, CPR class, background check, insurance, etc. He told me some people walk out of orientation and they immediately get on the phone and call alternates. He said they accept alternates up until the first day of classes. I hope I get in badnap so that I make another opening in the fall program for you! The fall orientation is in July. Good luck!

I got the same letter a month ago, but friends of mine that applied close to the deadline didn't get a confirmation letter. I wouldn't worry about not getting one.

I hope patience isn't required for nursing school. I have NONE. I'm stalking this board just as much as my email, hoping someone has news!

Question for those familiar with the OCCC nursing program.
Hi Megan, I've also applied for the fall semester at OCCC. I'm finishing up the last of my prerequisites right now. I would advise you to go for it, as far as taking micro is concerned. Nursing school requires way more studying and time away from home, so that could be a good way to ease back into school, and for your family to get used to your new responsibilities. Have you taken pharmacology, overview of nursing and medical terminology already? What about the other prerequisites? If you are taking micro just to get the 3rd science preference point, you might consider (as a quick and easier alternative) taking general biology during the May or August intercession. It is all online and lasts two weeks. I have friends who took it for that very reason. I agree with what snb said about the class schedules. If you start in the spring you will have evening classes the entire program. I've heard people in the spring program say that they chose morning clinical slots, though. 15 points is a long-shot. 17 points with a 3.5 would make you a shoe-in for the spring program. Good luck to you!

OCCC Fall 2013 Hopefuls!!!
Thanks for the updates, Sylvia and rn2be! I hope everyone on this thread gets in and we get to all meet at orientation. :-)

OCCC Fall 2013 Hopefuls!!!
I sure hope that "he" is telling people 5-6 weeks because he is getting a lot of inquiries. I can only imagine how many calls, visits and emails (from myself included) he must be getting! Last year it was just him tallying all the points and doing all the work. When I applied he told me that this year he has someone helping him (for the first time) and he will be able to get through them much quicker. I hope that hasn't changed! Waiting is torture! I'm glad we have this forum to vent on! :-) Good luck to us all!

OCCC Fall 2013 Admissions
I know I will have enough points to get in the fall, but if I was waitlisted and was offered the 1+1, I would do it in a heartbeat! (Assuming the costs are in line with OCCC.)

How does the 1+1 program work?

I plan on applying for the fall. I currently have 19 points, should have 20 next week, when I pass the cna state exam.

Looking for a Nursing program in the OKC area...HELPPP!!!!!!
I looked into several schools in the OKC area. I carefully looked at the course requirements for each program, and how the point system worked for each school. I already had a lot of courses done, so I had to make sure I picked a program where I wouldn't be repeating a lot of courses. Different programs put a different amount of weight on GPA, test scores, where courses are taken, etc. There is no one right answer for everybody, but for me, OCCC was the obvious choice.

OCCC BADNAP 2013
I do not plan on going for a CRNA or NP. I am 40-- by the time I got through all of that I'd either be in serious debt and/or approaching retirement age, haha! But seriously, I really want to be floor nurse. I spent so many years in management in a different industry. I "aimed high" for a long time, but happened to be in a field I didn't enjoy. I may go for my BSN, but have no interest in going any further. One thing I've learned, however-- never say "never!"

OCCC BADNAP 2013
Lordizzy, no need to apologize-- you didn't give me any negative feelings. :-) My 15 credits are not all science, thank goodness! I'm taking 9 of science and 6 of non-science that was not required for my bachelor's. I've been researching the programs since May of last year. Okstategirl-- you have nothing to worry about. I'd bet any amount of money you will get in. I agree with Lordizzy that if/when we get in we need to meet for a beer before the program starts and celebrate!

OCCC BADNAP 2013
My GPA is only a 3.12. I wish I could go back about 20 years and take college more seriously. I'm concerned about my GPA, but the admissions guy really seemed to think it would be enough to get me in BADNAP this summer. TEAS was fine (78). I'm finishing my last prereqs this semester (15 credits). I am thrilled about the last minute change in requirements. I have no idea how many of the 90 applications are 100% done with prereqs or still in progress, or don't even meet GPA/TEAS minimums. I think my chances are good, but who knows. I guess I won't have to wait long to find out, at least!
