OCCC Fall 2013 Admissions

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Hello All!

I am currently getting my nursing school application together for OCCC's (Oklahoma City Community College) Traditional Pathway Nursing application deadline in April. I just wanted to put some feelers out to see who of you out there are also applying, and to see how we are all doing on our points. I have yet to take my TEAS test (I'll be taking it next week), and I am about to do clinicals to finish up my CNA (to get a preference point). If all goes well, I should be sitting at 18 points with a 3.27 GPA. I heard that the traditional pathway applicants for spring of 2012 had higher preference points, and GPA's than ever before. (DON'T Quote me, but I think it was something like 17 points, and a 3.3GPA) Regardless, it was higher than usual. The spring has, in the past, had less points required for admission than Fall. This was a little disconcerting to me, as I fear I am cutting it close. However, I have also heard that the BADNAP program, (which, in the past, has not even had enough applicants to fill its positions), has accepted applicants without all pre-requisites completed by the application deadline (as required in the past). This year, they are accepting applicants who will have pre-requisites completed before the start of the program. My hope is that this will ease up some tension on the traditional pathway applicants. Have any of you heard anything else? How are your points? What have you been doing to get extra points? Please feel free to share anything you may have struggled with about the process, and any support you would like to share. Good luck to us all!

@snb1028 yes I am. I was not able to pass my math to get two more points ;( but I did go ahead and turn in my application. Turns out I have 16 not 17 points. So I applied with 16 points and 3.0 GPA. Not sure if that's enough ;( I guess I will know in 3 to 6 weeks. Hahaha! How many did you apply with Afterall? Any one else applying for Fall 2013 at OCCC?

I applied with 18 points and a 3.29 GPA. I'm hoping that's more than enough. I think somewhere around 20 alternates made it in last fall. I think fall is a big one for people applying to multiple programs, which means not everyone who is accepted, takes their slot.

I turned in my fall application last week. I have 17 points w/ 3.07 gpa. I am making myself sick waiting.......

I turned in my application for the fall on Wednesday. When I figured all of my points up, I had 18 with a 3.83 GPA.

Im so nervous because I had the testing center put all of my test scores on one sheet and I didn't look over it before I turned in my application. I thought I saw a 91 instead of the needed 92 score for reading. I hope the man didn't type in my score wrong.

So stressed.

Did you take the compass reading or cpt accuplacer?

@annehen92,@snb1028,@rajjhoss.@brikal11. Congrats to all of us. I'm very doubtfully at this point. I only had 16 points ;( I've heard almost everyone with 17 or more get in. So you all seem to fall into that category;) good luck to us all! Three to six weeks is a long time to wait huh?!?

When I turned my application in I was told the first meeting for the 1+1 is may 8... He said we will now before then.. I can't handle not knowing.

How does the 1+1 program work?

If you are not accepted into the program and you made at least a 70% on your teas then you can apply at a votech for your LPN and then jump back in at OCCC and graduate at the same time you normally would have.

I know I will have enough points to get in the fall, but if I was waitlisted and was offered the 1+1, I would do it in a heartbeat! (Assuming the costs are in line with OCCC.)

Ya'll are making me really nervous. I applied with 17 points and a 3.3 GPA and I don't feel like it will be enough at this point, after reading through the various forums. :(

Last fall all with 17 got in. Even Some with 16. Don't count yourself out. The one thing about this process is none of us can count ourselves out, or in. It's nerve wrecking on so many different levels. Good luck to you! Hope we all see each other in classes this fall!

What scares me is how many of you are applying with 18+ points, because I'm sure there are many others who have 17 like me, but a higher GPA. They DO go off of the Retention/Retentive GPA and not cumulative, right?
