I have a couple of questions and if you guys can please answer me I would appreciate it. do you have to apply for the accelerated or are you automatically in it if you have a 4.0?
also, suppose the school does get the grant, how long do they give you to answer yes to the accelerated track?.. and do the acceptance letters for the fast track and the accelerated come seperately?
also, to the ones who are in the program: on a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is nursing school at OCC? also, when they assigned the clinical placements in hospital how was your experience there?
if anyone has an answer please let me know... Im going crazy I can no longer wait for that letter...
well thank you so much and i wish all you applicants the best of luck, we totally need it
rmt, I think it was around $100. The fingerprint was about $15 mabye. Get ready for a ton of nickel and dime stuff. Just when you think you have it under control there is something else to buy. Im spending far more than I anticipated even with allowing for all the little "extras" when I tried to budget.
more questions! lol. I seriously need a job...my unemployment is set to run out in Sept. Im considering doing a CNA program the second part of summer to hopefully get a 15-20 hr a week job sooner rather than later. I thought I read in another thread that its possible to get a job as a cna once you start clinicals in the adn program.
my questions are:
How soon do you start clinical rotations in the adn program?
Are there any current students at OCC here that have gotten a job at a facility where you did clinical rotations?
Will a 2 week CNA program in the summer really give me a head start in finding a job before or around september? Im kinda thinking it might be a waste of money, it depends on when I can get enough practical experience at OCC to get my foot in the door somewhere.
thanks!
Hi! I know the dealine for the next applications is Dec. 15th 2011? I was wondering if you took classes in the fall of 2011 can those grades still count for the application?
Hi,
Yes the fall grades will count for your nursing gpa. When you fill out your app with a counsler they will note on your app the classes that you are taking in the fall, then when your grades are posted the nursing department will use the best grades.
Good luck
rmt
rotations start in the 5th or 6th week.
i have never heard of anyone getting a job anywhere they are doing rotations. most people who have jobs in the program were already working somewhere, they were already CNA's or home care aids.
i can pretty much tell you this and i dont want to discourage you in any way because by next fall or winter the job market could totally have done a 180 from where it is now. so here it is. without a CNA cert you will find it dang near impossible to get a job in a hospital. they dont usually take students except for externships that last about 9 to 12 weeks and then they are over. its very hard to get those spots also, and they are only offered to 2nd year students. with a CNA you can get a job, maybe in a nursing home but there are a lot of job postings for CNA's on hospital web sites. dont believe the hype about being able to get a job after your med surg class either, that may have been the case before the job market crash but it is not the case now. anyway good luck looking for a job.

Thats not entirely true. I am a PCA in a hospital and didn't have any patient care experience or education whatsoever when they hired me 3 months ago. I did transfer in from another dept in the hospital (non-patient care,) but I know of quite a few others who have been outside hires with no experience. Some of them aren't even pursuing a nursing career. That being said, it IS hard to get the jobs but that's mainly because of the economy. At the hospital I work at it seems to be a matter of who you know.

can anyone tell me what it costs for the fingerprinting and background check required for entry to the program?
