Hi! So I have a question....the gpa cutoff of 3.774....is that the gpa cutoff for the program or for the ACCELERATED program.
And jeez....that is really high.

3.77 was the cut off for the program.... not the accelerated. Last year the cut off was 3.57 for the traditional route. Wow, what a difference!

That is a big difference. I read in the paper that enrollment at OCC is very close to all time high. More people to compete against.
Last year they had more seats for the accelerated program (about 60, compared to 30), so that made some sort of difference. The program is very stressful... in my last nursing class at least 7 out of 25 (don't know the exact number of student in class) failed that class:(
It's only going to get more competitive....

Does anyone know what the accelerated cutoff is? Or what the deadline is for those who want in the accelerated program? I'm applying for 2011, but am seriously considering retaking a class I have a 'B' in to make my gpa a 4.0. Will 3.92 be sufficient next year? I'm thinking maybe not! Yikes! Congrats again to all who made the cut this year! :-)

The deadline for the accelerated program is March 26th. So we will all find out what the cutoff is after they go through that list but I feel that it will be very close to the 4.0 gpa.

I got accepted to the nursing program for fall 2010. I chose the traditional track but I was offered the accelerated and my GPA is 3.88
Thanks Grensa! That gives me some idea as to what the pool may look like for 2011. Congratulations to you! Enjoy your first year!! :-)

I am also starting the traditional track in Fall 2010.
OCC offers the program to everyone who qualifies for the traditional. They then take the top 30 G.P.As who wanted the accelerated and notify them. So technically, everyone who met the cutoff of 3.774 got offerred the program, though only 30 spots were even available from the 200+ accepted students.
I saw the letter verifiying the accelerate program for my friend and the cutoff was 3.994. Yes, 3.994.
If you are dead set on the accelerated program, I would honestly say that I am of the opinion that only 4.0s will get in next year. I know a large amount of people who are re-taking classes and applying again next year because the GPA jumped so high this time around. Like previous posters said, it will only keep getting tougher and more competetive.
Best of luck to everyone!

Thank you KellieB!! That seals the deal on me retaking the one course I have a 'B' in (comp II). Congrats and good luck to you when you start the program! It's been awhile since I attended the seminar...I forget how many 'starts' OCC has. Is it something like May/Aug/Sept/Oct?? Do you have any idea how they determine who starts when? Is it also based on GPA rank? Does the accelerated track also have staggered starts?
Thanks for the congrats! I am very excited to get started. :)
To answer your questions, OCC has one application deadline per year (Dec 15). That deadline is for the program that will start the following fall. They ONLY start in Fall, one time per year for traditional. Accelerated is also only started one time per year, in May. There are no multiple starts, thus no staggering.
For example, you apply by Dec 15, 2010 for Fall 2011. By March 15, they inform you if you have been accepted. They then extend the offer for accelerated (if they have it... there is no guarantee and it's a year by year thing if they receive the grant from the DMC to have it). In mid-April, they contact the people who will be in the AP as well as the people who applied for it but were not above the cut-off. The AP people would start May 2011, the Traditional would start September 2011.
My class of applicants was over 700. Around 220 got the traditional program and an additional 30 got the accelerated. People who did not get accepted will need to re-take classes and apply for 2011 by Dec 15th of this year.
Hope that was clear enough. :) OCC is different from other schools in many ways, but it is also straight-forward: One chance per year to show up with your game face on (i.e. a killer GPA).
Best of luck to you and I can recommend someone for Comp II; it is a male who has a hypenated last name. He's cool and straight-forward (I had him at Auburn Hills). I think he teaches it online as well. It sounds like you will be in awesome shape to apply come winter.

To jazznjac:
For some reason I can not apply to your private message. I'd be happy to chat with you though. It's hard on this site, since I can't post my email or anything. However, if you have Facebook, I am on the O.C.C. Nursing Students page. There is a discussion at the top of the page that I have taken part in. If you want to message me that way then I will be able to answer your questions. :)
