OCC - 2010 applicants / 2011 ADN prospective students

Published

Hey everyone! Im back for my second application into the ADN program at OCC ::sigh:: As I did in the thread I created last year, I am creating a new one for all those applying to the nursing progam for next fall. Lets keep in touch and keep one another updated. Good luck guys!!! :)

I have a 3.5, and I applied at Mercy College in Toledo. I was going to try to get into Oakland but I didn't do good in Sociology, I got a "C" but an A and B in every other class. At mercy I didn't need Sociology so it boosted my g.p.a

I'm just hanging around because I am from Michigan and I am waiting just like you all are:) lol

occ 2012

just an fyi, last year you needed a 4.0 to get on the accelerated program.

^Are you sure about that whosurdaddy? I was reading last year's thread, and someone with a 3.88 was offered the accelerated, but they turned it down.

ETA: from grensa in an old OCC gpa cutoff thread

I got accepted to the nursing program for fall 2010. I chose the traditional track but I was offered the accelerated and my GPA is 3.88

Trying to figure out what my back up plan is if I do not get in.......:uhoh3:

everyone is offered the accelerated program because they dont know what the gpa cutoff will be so every student who gets in will be asked if they want the accelerated program. last year the 30 slots were accepted by students who had 4.0 gpa. if there is 30 slots this year you can bet that they will be grabbed by the 4.0 students, bc every year there will be more 4.0 students than the last year bc the gpa goes up every year.

Confused more than ever.:uhoh3:

lol

i should have wrote that clearer

Amy

if there are 30 acc slots offered, occ will offer those slots to every student who is accepted into the program

you can check yes you want the acc program

or you can check no you dont want the acc program

once everyone has responded occ takes all the people who checked yes and gives those 30 slots accelerated slots to the 30 people who had the highest gpa's

last year there was at least 30 students who had a 4.0 gpa who wanted to be in the accelerated program

so im just saying your going to need a 4.0 gpa to get into the accelerated program if its offered.

hope that clears it up better

Oh yeah, thanks! That does. I thought about it right before you posted, and it's clear now.

Man that sucks. At least 30 people had 4.0s? UGH

Yeah, I heard the same thing that whosurdaddy is saying about the accelerated....the 'lowest' gpa the accelerated took last year was a 3.977 (they go up to the fourth decimal point). That is what a counselor at highland lakes told me.

They ask everyone, and out of the people who say 'yes' they rank them again according to gpa and offer the top 30 or 60 (or whatever seats they are offering for the accelerated) a seat in the accelerated program.

How long is the accelerated program?

The accelerated program is 15 months and it starts in may, so if you were a student in the accelerated program you would start the RN program in May of 2011 and end in September of 2012.

I was looking at the schedule for the summer classes and it says pharmacology is all closed..is it because the classes are all filled or because they only allow you to register through them once you get accepted to the program?
