U.S.A. Michigan

Hey everyone! Im back for my second application into the ADN program at OCC ::sigh:: As I did in the thread I created last year, I am creating a new one for all those applying to the nursing progam for next fall. Lets keep in touch and keep one another updated. Good luck guys!!! :)

Just found out that Red Cross is going to charge me $500 for my CPR course! Dezam! Did everyone have to pay this much??

Specializes in Emergency.

Are u talking about the BLS course? $54 at crittenton or $25 at Waterford fire dept.

Specializes in Oncology.

I know a guy who does the training for $30. His place is located on 13 and Southfield. And it is only 2-3 hour training. Many of my peers went there. It worths the money and time. And you can schedule with him directly. Sometimes its even a private session. If you need his number, PM me.

BLS CPR was $50 at Auburn hills campus. Not sure if they have dates/times available though. Call the EMT office there, they set it up. :-)

Specializes in Neuroscience.

ACE is so annoying. The course screens will not load on my laptop. But it had no issue at all taking my $50 payment:rolleyes:

funny how that happens isnt it. and the best part is that you get to pay for it all again next year too.

i wish they would tell you ahead of time that your going to have to pay for a bunch of crap.

thank you all for the advice on the cpr!!!

I'm getting nervous now, it is getting close..

Omg I can't believe it's almost Sept. 1. I am sooo nervous but anxious to start. I still have a few more books to get and then I'm all set. How has everyone's journey been in preparation for the start of the fall semester?

Oh yea....did anybody buy the syllabus for Nur 1410 yet and knows what readings/assignments we have to do by the first day of class? I haven't gotten my syllabus yet but have some of my books so maybe I can get started.

Mocha Latte, from the NUR 1410 syllabus, here are the required Sept. 1, 2011 readings for ADN RN students, OCC - Highland Lakes:

Contemporary Nursing – Cherry. 5th edition.

pp. 3-23, 34-39, 59-65, 73-84, 103-104, 450-451.

Michigan Nursing Association - Professional and Legal Regulation of Nursing Practice in Michigan – 3rd Edition

pp. 8-14, 26-37, 53.

Medical - Surgical Nursing: Assessment and management of clinical problems - Lewis, Heitkemper, Dirksen, O’Brien, Bucher. 8th edition

pp. 1-2, 5-7. (Patient Safety Goals, QSEN, EBP, etc.)

QSEN (quality and safety education in nursing) is not covered in the 7th edition and EBP (evidence-based practice) only partially covered in the 7th edition.

Contemporary Nursing (Cherry) 5th edition covers both topics in greater detail in chapters 21-22, pp. 442-464.

Time permitting, read those chapters if only the 7th edition Med-Surg. Nursing text is available. Very interesting readings.

Thank you so much for your help, Learned Paramecium!

Yes! Thanks for posting Paramecium....I plan to head to the bookstore tomorrow, but just ordered a few via Amazon, so I won't have the Lewis text(s) until next week. Looks like most is in the Cherry text though, eh?! Did anyone get their scrubs from somewhere besides the bookstore? Birch Run, etc.? Only a couple more weeks....getting excited and enjoying the rest of the summer! :-)
