OCC - 2010 applicants / 2011 ADN prospective students

U.S.A. Michigan

Hey everyone! Im back for my second application into the ADN program at OCC ::sigh:: As I did in the thread I created last year, I am creating a new one for all those applying to the nursing progam for next fall. Lets keep in touch and keep one another updated. Good luck guys!!! :)

yeah they are getting rid of prep points. TG (dont know if you know who that is) said they are a waste of time and dont really serve a purpose. i think we could have told them that a long time ago. i would have to wonder what they are going to replace them with, cause you know they arent going to just let you not do nothing. hell that would mean a good 3 or 4 hours of free time a week. we know that would never be allowed.

occ 2012 prep points are work sheets that you turn in every week. they were useless cause you would spend time doing them for 1 point and they would have nothing to do with what you would get tested on.

Just had my last lecture. Final next week, then my brain can run away from my skull like it so desperately wants to.:lol2::sofahider

Also, my instructor mentioned today that at Orientation we will find out our schedules for Fall and what group we're in: either A or B.

At least you guys have a break between Pharm and Fundamentals. We only had 2 weeks off in between those classes. Have you all done your Ace Passport? Do you know what they want as far as medical terminology for the Lab? If you can find out I would recommend doing medical terminology over the summer.

Anne it said in our info packets that ACE passports will be explained to us at orientation. So as of right now, we're clueless, lol. I'm assuming it's clinical related though? When do we take the NET?

Thanks for the tip!

We dont take the NET as far as I know. ACE passport takes a few hours to do, they should have you guys do it right now so it is out of your way. ACE is just a computer learning module we have to do for clinical. Its HIPPA , etc.

if you can still get in a summer med term class i would do it. the book and tests they have you do are not really a good prep for the true amount of terminology words you will come across in your first year. knowing the med term will really help you on alot of your tests. getting up in the middle of a test and searching for a word during a test that your allowed 1 1/2 minutes per question is a lot of valuable time wasted.

I just looked at the fall schedule for the foundations times and days and they're all on monday. It also said 16 hours of clinical and lab will be additional. So is it safe to assume the I will have something scheduled 4 days a week for this class? (1 day for lecture,,2 days of lab and 1 day of clinical)

Mocha Latte, when we started Foundations we didnt begin Clinical until our 4-6 weeks. At first we did 1 day lecture, 2 day lab, then it moved to 1 day lecture, 1 day lab and 2 day Clinical.

Is there anywhere that I can find out what the new book is that we will be using for Fundamentals?

Oh yea.....1 more week of Pharm! We made it to the home stretch. Just 5 more semesters to go! Woohoo!

As far as for textbook, we was told on Monday to hold on that. They are still deciding which one we would use. I heard it would be from foundation to med Surg.

If you need something to read, I have extra copy of current version of foundation that we have been using. PM me.

For me, I have 2 more semesters to go. Just passed medication and injection check off beautifully, I have 2 more exams. Then off ... Yay!

Okay, today we had a Test in Nur 1410. I would say that this is officially the first Test we have had that I would call difficult. I did study and was even surprised at the available answers to the questions. It was a lot of content and I think that is part of it. I focused more on things that were not on the exam and dismissed other things because of the way we have been tested so far, most of the answers have been obvious, but NOT today. The last Test before the final exam next week. The very last week before 1410 is over really could make it or break it for passing, even if you are doing very well. 130 points from 1 week! I dont like this setup, its too stressful.
