Obstetric Nursing in Brisbane for CA Nursing Board

Hello Folks, can any of you help me with this please? I am an RN here in Brisbane (Australia) but did my studies in Singapore. Upon evaluation, CA Nursing board tells me that i have to do Obstetric Nursing theory and practical.

Does anyone out there know where in Brisbane i can do that, which is recognised by CA Nursing board?

Help me please!

I have a simular problem. I live in FL and have a CA. LVN licence. I was a Air Force medic for 20 yrs. and CA allowed me to take the NCLEX exam, which I did and passed. The FL Board of Nursing said I needed Peds and OB class before they would accept my CA licence. They could not "measure my 20 yrs experience" I was able to take the Peds class but not the OB class. I was hoping to find a on-line OB course and maybe volunteer time at an OB Ward or clinic to meet the clinical requirements. If anyone knows of any on-line OB courses that I could take, please let me know. Thank you, Tim

You need to check with Florida that they will accept online course. Generally they will want a credited course

Hi,

My name is Maelle, and I'm a nurse student in Montreal, Canada. I would like to work in Brisbane at the end of my studies.

It's difficult to get information on equivalencies it would take me to work in Australia or if my technique in nursing obtained in Quebec is recognized. I wonder if anyone has information, or if a nurse from Quebec would have experience working in Brisbane?

Thank you!

yay! finally i found a thread with the same question!

However I was lucky to get a SSN when i used to live in California as a kid (but am an Australian Citizen)

Kathmandu77, i've been looking everywhere i live in QLD too, and got a letter recently from the BRN sayin i lack hours in Peds and Obstetrics.

Where do we go to get these make up hours done? I can easily get clinical hours done at hospital due to knowing some people who could take me. But theory that will be recognized by the board? I've sent them an email and await their reply. I know that Deakin isn't something to do as they do not reognize it.

I guess finding a school in CA and going there for 6 weeks sounds great...but where the heck is that school!

It's brain damaging.

Have you found anything yet? Keep me posted!

Are you sure of this? Did the CA board informed you that Deakin's Professional Development Units (PDU) are not recognisable?

Please advise (before I lodge my enrolment)

Many thanks

Go on the BRNs website and look at approved schools for refresher courses. Some of them offer OB, and they also have a clinical portion there. Find out if the BRN will accept that since it's coming straight from their website. Good Luck

Well, according to their Website and with the help of this forum, it does not recognise and "distance learning education" and online learning is in the same category. It may have changed, now, but i've emailed the board and await their reply, it's been nearly a week since i emailed them.

If Deaking is not acceptable to the CA board, the next best bet is to contact your local Uni and see if they have any courses in maternity/peds that may give you the hours and then a subequent transcript.

Alternatively, the approved schools in CA may have room to get your hours of theory and prac but I think the catch is you study over there in the actual college. I'll let you know as soon as i know what the Board approves of Deakin.

Kind Regards.

Most of the RN programs in CA want you to be an enrolled student in order for you to sign up for their peds/ob courses. I haven't come across a school who will let you enroll in a peds or ob portion of the course and do clinicals. But if someone has found a school that allows that please do share. Good Luck

Aussie trained nurse here.

I strongly suggest to get your Paeds & Obstetrics clinical experience while you're there. I took a few short courses here: The College of Nursing - http://www.nursing.edu.au/display.aspx?PageID=0&MemberID=0&screenheight=800&screenwidth=1280# or something similar from an accredited college or even short courses at uni. I'm not sure if you have the same colleges in Brissy but look around.

Hey tim

Have checked this site out? https://www.cebroker.com/public/pb_index.asp

I'm sure I came across this site from FL BON when I was searching for online courses they will recognise and credit you for. I've not used them, so make sure to ask first.

Crystelle- are you sure that this college of nursing in australia will be recognised, as it says half of it is distance learning? how long were your courses, and which ones did you take? Did you end up being able to sit NCLEX?

Thanks.

Took NCLEX last week and passed. PM or email me on exactly where you are on your application and I might be able to give you some directions.

The short courses I took were in-campus and not distance learning. The longest I took was 14hrs course, plus I had other short courses that totalled to more than what was required from me.
