OB Nurses that are insensitive?

Hi everyone, I'm posting this because I am curious to see what you think. I am a CNA hopefuly will start with my pre-reqs in Sep.

Anyways, about 5 years ago, I was a patient like many other you see everyday, I had my first child and needeless to say I gained a lot of weight :o, some of this a some of that caused my stomach to be covered with strech marks.

All the nurses were great but this one nurse, came to me to introduce herself when she looks at my stomach and tells me... "Ohhh no! You got alot of strech marks! You should have used some vitamin E oil"...:eek: I was in shock and extremelly embarrased... No only you feel like crap when you give birth and want to cry every two seconds, but now I also had to worry that my nurse really notice my strech marks and comented about them too!

Long story short and going to the point... what do you think about insensitive nurses? I mean, I don't like the smell when I change somebody, but I sure don't make faces or coment on anything... shouldn't have she keep this to herself? Is it normal for nurses to comment like that?? I never did anything at the time, but it always bugged me. When I had my second child I saw her again, but thankfully she was not my nurse at the time...

Just a silly post that I've been wanting to write for 5 years!

People say stupid things all the time, so I make it a point not to care unless they are being intentionally hostile. Salty tears are no good for skin, either. :twocents:

I understand that. I mentioned L&D because almost every mother is not herself during that time, u are 1000 times more sensitive and even the littlest thing hurts your feelings.

If a nurse told me today something about I wouldn't mind it, but during that time everything is different and every mother can tell you the same.

Code brown- I never thought about that happening during labor! I have not had any children yet, but how embarrassing! I would be mortified already, then just plain ****** if someone had looked unprofessinally.

I had the OBGYN to look at it and say "Eh, someone needs to clean this up." Well, you told me to push like I was having a bowel movement. I guess he was expecting confetti to come out my bum:confused:

That is what surveys are for, i would pass it on nicely. When i gave birth to my first child nurses were grabbing my breast to 'assist' me with breastfeeding without asking left or right...it was very very uncomfortable to me but i didn't have the confidence to ask them to stop. I did pass it on in the survey and i think many other moms did to because the next time i gave birth, (while by then i was experienced and didn't need much help) but the nurse or two that did assist me all asked before touching me.

They deal with that stuff all day long so Im sure they just weren't thinking how uncomfortable it was for new moms. that is why we do surveys...to learn how we can inadvertantly may be insensitive. pass it on...and help another mom in the future. congrats on the new baby ;)

'Someone needs to clean this up'

Guess he's referring to the nurse.... and LOL I wondering why he needs to say that in the first place. Kinda thought it's obvious that the nurse will need to clean it up. Silly doc

We always tell moms if they poop during pushing that they are pushing right! Moms get so embarassed about it but we are very used to it. A lot of things can come out at the same time as the baby!

You may be used to seeing it, but most Moms are not used to taking a crap in front of strangers who are focused on that part of their body. I'm glad you and your staff are like that. Maybe you all should give seminars at my local hospital
