I know this a weird question to ask but I have been gay all my life and in the last few months I have come to find my true self and I'm going to start hormones soon and start living as " Amber " that mean dressing as her full time at work and my everyday life I have let everyone on my unit know what's going on and I have had a few of the girls on the unit go to my NM and say they will not work beside me... I love being a OB nurse but I'm sacred no one will work with me and worried that once I start work as "Amber" I'm going to be forced outta my job. Need some advice any one out there can help?

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Don't give up on your dreams over this!!! I hope, when you're ready, you start looking for a new position in L&D with a new fresh start.

You don't say where you're located, but certainly different locales have different climates regarding TG people. If you live somewhere with that much discrimination, is relocating a possibility for you?

I can understand wanting to leave such a hostile environment, but my heart breaks for you, because the bullies have won.

I hope that, with time, you find happiness as Amber and that you find a more supportive work environment.

Specializes in Maternity.

I good few years back when I was working in dialysis a Filipino nurse under went gender reallignment to female and was fully accepted by the unit. I don't know if it was the fact that in diaysis you end up being quite a close team and since you get to know the patients very well as you see them 2-3 times a week for years all her named patients were really supportive.

I think the only negative comments were the fact some of the female members of staff were a bit jealous she had much nicer tits than them :roflmao:.

You have to find the right hospital! We have a big LGTB group at my hospital, as a matter if fact, several of our attending docs head up the committee. Don't give up your dream!!!

That's awful. Please don;t give up.You have evry right to be a nurse and you have every right to be who you are.Keep fighting.Legally they cannot discriminate.
