What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

Some of these names are just unbelievable. Are these real or for fun? lol

All mine are completely serious. With the possible exception of "Meconium" which may just be an urban legend joke perpetrated on us by an OB. I know the "TrueLove" one is real because she was not only a patient of my mother's, but there was also some sort of event in the family due to which her name appeared in the local newspaper.

There is just no accounting for taste, or lack thereof. ;)

My (chemist) bro insisted he would name his children Chlorine, Florine, Bromine and Iodine. He didn't (wife may have had something to do with that)

I love it! Or maybe it's the chemistry lover coming out in me.

I know a guy named Golden. I met a guy named Dubert. I met some kids of the same family whose names were Chucky, Buckwheat, April, May, June.

While in a Florida nursing school during our L&D rotation, a newborn was named Profit. His new mother could not spell Prophet.

Come on, people!

Some of these are Urban Legends that have been around a lloooong time! Check them out yourself on Snopes and Urban Legends websites

Before anyone posts this one (maybe I should have read the whole thread before I say this) let me tell you that the newest "name story"

"I heard from a friend of mine who works regeistering new patients that a lady got really mad when no one could pronounce her daughter's name. It's spelled Ja-ia. People were saying JAAYa JayIA, none of it right. The mom said "Her name be JA DASH I A...that dash don't be silent"."

This one is both a legend AND racist so it's a double whammy.

Not sure of spelling, but something like Ameelyonneire, pronounced "a millionaire". (on purpose, they thought they were creating a self-fulfilling prophecy).

That reminds me of the girl I used to work with whose name was spelled "Daniel", although it was pronounce "Danielle". Her mother misspelled it on the birth certificate.

too funny! :D
