PP hemorrhage!

  1. Had a bad situation rather recently....C-section after 30 hour labor, 2 1/2 pushing, then uterine atony. After much Pitocin, Methergine, and Hemabate (and many blood products- thank you donors!) the doc orders Cytotec, 1000mcg rectally. Either it all finally caught up with her....or this did the trick! We have not heard of this before, but we can be behind the times occasionally:imbar! Anyone else do this?

We use it at our hospital for PP hemorhages...800mcg rectally, and it's like shutting off a faucet!

We do it too....I think the mind thing makes us forget that, since we use cytotec to induce labor, it couldn't possibly be used to stop a problem...

We usually give 200mcg rectally for PP hemorrhage, and that works!

rectal cytotec used at our hospital and with pretty great success. hemabate at the other place i work as well as methergine. expensive options; cytotec is cheap and fast. and the DOCTOR usually does it where I am; works for me (lol).
