OB, ER, Psych nurses....are you ready?

I have the long weekend off (except for a 6hour stint last night) and I have much worse to deal with. Staying at home with my family on a long weekend full moon. Arrgh! I'm ready for work to call.

I have worked LTC, Med/Surg, and Psych. I also was raised in a Florist/Nursery business and can tell you all that the Full Moon effect is real.

I didn't realize !! Is that why we had 10 addmissions and a half dozen pts. "looking at the light" ??!!

So glad I was off this weekend. Now tomorrow we'll see what is left over!!!

Speaking of "vitamins" in the water, are Prozac and birth control compatible? I've always thought we needed both!!!

Anyone who doesn't believe in the full moon has not worked L&D!! Once I worked a Friday the 13th, full moon, payday, and it was storming outside. Don't tell me I ain't tough!!!

WHO in their right mind was in charge of a study that actually allegedly "proved" that full mooness (which is the title to one of my crazy poems) does not exist. NO ONE who ever worked in any area of the nursing world...I cringe when I get in the car and see the full moon on my way to work. I have noticed that on a night or series of nights when the moon is wacky, that walking through the waiting room of the ER on my way to OB usually allows me some semblance of an idea for what I am in store. Heather, I feel your pain. Recall my last c/s pt who actually, on my wild night from hell described in the OB thread, wanted me to call her physician, who was NOT on call, to go down to the storeroom to get the abdominal binder she wanted. AND the other night when I got two patients at the same time just AFTER the nurse on call had gone home....I imagine those scientists left out the fact that every nurse, doctor, paramedic, policeman, fireman or other publically oriented individual from the beginning of time has major respect, reverance and unmitigated fear of the full moon was TOTALLY LOST on them! Well, WE all know the truth, don't we????:)

Oh, things just have a way of working themselves out. My one decent patient, a section with triplets in NICU, the one that actually had something to be upset and distracted about, gave me a 3 Muskateers candy bar at the end of my tiresome shift yesterday. (In my 3 day holiday full moon weekend fog, it took me awhile to get the connections between triplets and 3 Muskateers!) Thanked me for taking such good care of her.

Who says chocolate can't fix everything???
