MO790-management of inhalent/mist medicationsSome of our nurses are not including meds such as Miacalcin, NTG spray as an inhalent or mist medication they are only including nebulizer tx or inhalers. Other nurses are including these types of drugs. Any opinions would be appreciated.
At our agency, we include all meds inhaled or taken intranasally. I referred to my oasis handbook. The handbook defininition is " identifies the patient's abilty to prepare and take all prescribed inhalant/mist medications reliably and safely and the type of assistance reqired to administer the current dosage at the appropriate time/intervals." "Excludes oral, injectable and IV medications." So, I would think that any inhaled medication which the patient is using at the present time should be included. I hope that I didn't confuse you. Same at my agency.
Any PRESCRIPTION medication via inhalation/nebulizer or intranasal route should be counted as part of MO790-management of inhalent/mist medications.
When I've observed persons taking these meds, technique usually less than desired.
TAKE CREDIT and the $$$ for our teaching skills!!
