Oakland University ASD-BSN July 2011 Interview

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi All,

I was just notified a few days ago of receiving the opportunity to be interviewed for the next upcoming class of Accelerated Second Degree Nursing students at OU. As I was researching tonight I came upon a few threads from previous interviewees. So I thought the group of us going through this exciting and nerve wrecking process can keep in touch and go through it together. I am interviewing on July 14 and am very nervous . I want to be thoroughly prepared. As I was reading the posts I noticed some people mentioned an essay. I was not informed of any essay that had to be written at the interview. Has the interview process changed and have they stopped requiring candidates to write an essay? In my email notification of my interview all they told me was that the interview would be about 20 minutes long. If anyone has any valuable information and advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Have a great night and enjoy the weekend! The weather has been beautiful! :)

Mom_of_4 - did you see my second reply? It was not Aschenbrenner. I knew the name was familiar...

Anyway, I am currently looking feverishly for work. My youngest is starting kindergarten, so I've go the time and I'd really like to sock away some money between now and the time I start.

In terms of studying, I bought an NCLEX Review book and I'm reading through it, looking things up in my medical dictionary, and cross referencing in my anatomy book. I figure this is a) helping me prepare in some way for the NCLEX, b) reviewing information I have already learned, and c) introducing me to new information that can only make my life easier during the program (I might not retain much but if it is at least vaguely familiar, I think I'll come out ahead).

I believe we start right away in the first week in May. So excited!

I wanted to know the book for pharmacology. The Huether was for patho...and that class was pretty hectic. Sounds like you a good game plan going. I was looking into getting a NCLEX review book, but have not had a chance to research all the different kind of books out there. I form't know we started that early in May. I am really excited!!! Have you looked into financial aid yet? I definetly will have to take out a loan.

Okay... this is a bit off topic, so forgive me... but I work full time and I have been stressed about taking a year off of work. I recently started selling home products (31-gifts) to see if I could supplement my income enough to be comfortable... so far so good. I have at least a year to work on this, as I am applying for the May 2013 semester... but if any one in interested in making extra cash, doing something that wont interfere with school send me a private message and I will give you the details ;-)

Hey... separate subject, than posted above. Is anyone taking Informatics online this fall? Katrina White okayed me to take this early (before acceptance). I am in the class that starts this September, online. I think this is the first semester it is offered... so I am a little worried about the "unknown" aspect of things.

Is anyone interested in starting a facebook page for Cohort May 2012? It could be a really good way to stay connected and to get to know each other. ;-)

YES! I think that's a fantastic idea!

There is a group on facebook, for the ASDN May 2012 Cohort; send a request to join the group.

I just did a search and it didn't come up?

In the above post the name is a link try clicking on it, it should direct to the page. I just searched and it came up.

Weird - maybe I tried to soon. Last time the link didn't work either. I've sent my request now!

Yeah, this program is intense people. Just got through my first week and the validations and exams are basically every day. Sleep is MINIMAL! But if all these people did it before us, we can do it too:)

In regard to the interview, take control. Let them know that nursing is for you and MEAN it! It pays to be persistent. I did have a 4.0 GPA but I don't feel as though that's the reason I got in. I felt that the interview told the tale so for those who have a lower GPA, don't worry. If the interviewer can get an idea of why you are here and they see the conviction in your eyes and body language, you should be fine. Good luck to you all!!
