Oakland University ASD-BSN July 2011 Interview

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi All,

I was just notified a few days ago of receiving the opportunity to be interviewed for the next upcoming class of Accelerated Second Degree Nursing students at OU. As I was researching tonight I came upon a few threads from previous interviewees. So I thought the group of us going through this exciting and nerve wrecking process can keep in touch and go through it together. I am interviewing on July 14 and am very nervous . I want to be thoroughly prepared. As I was reading the posts I noticed some people mentioned an essay. I was not informed of any essay that had to be written at the interview. Has the interview process changed and have they stopped requiring candidates to write an essay? In my email notification of my interview all they told me was that the interview would be about 20 minutes long. If anyone has any valuable information and advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Have a great night and enjoy the weekend! The weather has been beautiful! :)

I apologize for the slightly off-topic post.

I'm wondering if any of you have seen any threads on the courses at OU -- pre-reqs or the actual ABSN program. One of my friends is starting at Amherst this fall and she has the details on which classes you really NEED a textbook, which you really need the most recent, which you can get by with an older edition, which preceptors are great (or aren't), which clinical experiences gave students the best experiences in terms of learning & fairness of the adviser/preceptor. I'd love to find similar info for OU.

(I'm waiting for my interview for fall 2012 and taking my last three pre-reqs.)

My acceptance letter said Riverview and I was told Riverview during the interview and my interviewer also said how beautiful the hospital was and how it was better than the nursing school on on campus because it was an actual hospital. The medical school is already open on the news they said they accepted 50 medical students out of about 3100 applicants, that is crazy. I also think study groups are a great idea.

My acceptance letter stated it would be Riverview Institute. If you have taken Nutrition you do not have to take Informatics. I previously took Nutrition. I live in Shelby Township and would be interested in a study group. I received a conditional admit based on completing Pharmacology. On the application I thought all the sites were at Riverview.

Thank you Nursesjms...4 is fun so far. You're right we have to be organized. I think we ate done...babies are cute but they do grow up. That is also am exciting adventure. ;-)

I know currently, everyone is at Riverview. However, my acceptance letter does not specify that (it specifically says 'a site to be determined'). Weird that everyone else's says Riverview???? The new building they are currently constructing on the northwest corner of campus is going to house the School of Nursing. However, it's not slated to begin holding classes until Fall 2012. In the past, they have also held classes/labs at the MCCC campus. Riverview is supposed to be a great facility, but if the new building on campus is similar, I'd rather not make the drive downtown....

I also talked to ---- today and my Nutrition class is fine - no need to take Informatics.

Momof4 - Glad you are enjoying your four. We live very close to each other - hopefully that will work to our advantage!

Can't wait!

IndyElmer,

I don't think that allnurses.com lets you discuss specifics about course content and professors. However, I have been watching the OU threads for about 1 1/2 years (as I complete my pre-reqs)... a lot of the cohorts set up private facebook groups. You might ask to join one of these groups and ask the members for their feedback!

Maybe I'm just panicky for no reason, but I sent in my deposit and it's not showing up under ebill or SAIL. Can anyone else see that your deposit was actually received?

I personally paid it at the Cashier's office...and I don't see it either. I paid it 8-11-11. I wouldn't worry. She may post it once she receives all the deposits.

Nursejms, which book did you use for Pharmacology? There are two we can choose from, Lehne and Aschenbrenner. The latter has more of a nursing focus. Did you have to take ATI exams? If so what were they like?

Mom_of_4, We used the Aschenbrenner book in my class. No ATI exams. The class was tough, but doable as long as you kept up with all of the reading. It was on-line and I don't know if the prof is there anymore. He was okay. There were a couple of papers, a lot of quizzes and a couple of exams. Like I said, as long as you did the reading it was fine. I got a 4.0 in the class... And I did like the book.

I lied. The book we used was Huether and McCance. The Aschenbrenner book was for pharm. Everything else I said is true. :D

I think I will use that book too. I cannot wait finish up this last prerequisite. May 2012 will be here before we know it. What ate you going to do in the meantime. Do you know when in May we will start?
