Oakland University ABSN

Hi there, anyone getting ready to interview in the next couple months for the Oakland University Accelerated nursing program? Thought this would be a good place in share experiences! Good luck!

Also, does anybody in the program already have any advice for the next couple agonizing months? Thanks in advance!

For those of you who already interviewed, did you have a feeling either way if the interview went well or not?

I came out feeling really good about it. I know someone who interviewed last year who mentioned that they will kinda 'let you know' if you are not cut out for nursing. They may even tell people that outright, not sure. That being said, I really don't know how it will turn out for me. I realize it's highly competitive. I just know I gave it my best and came away feeling I did great and hopefully that will be enough. Of course grades factor in as well and if they have a ton of 4.0's, that could factor in as well.

It will be interesting to see what hapens after the interviews. I wonder if we will know either way by the end of March. My original paperwork from the mail said by may we would have a decision, but I think it will be quicker than that.

I hope it will be quicker than May. I was hoping for the end of March, but I guess that depends on how long it takes for them to make a decision. I also hope that there were only 2 weeks of interviews. That will definitely increase our chances of getting in, and hopefully move up the notification date.

I'm thinking by the end of March or first week in April. Assuming every interview spot was taken, they only have to review 96 applications. For 50 spots, I think we have a great chance. The waiting is the hard part.

Yea I think we will know sooner rather than later. I asked in my interview an estimate of when we should find out and they said after the interviews are over (which will be tomorrow if they only do the two weeks) it should be about a month. So I'm guessing the beginning of April at the latest.

I'm anxious already, but am glad the interview process is over!

I heard that there are now 75 slots open for each new cohort because they opened Riverview. Has anyone else heard that? Also, many of the students have been pulled up to start in earlier sessions, so that may open additional slots too.... Maybe our chances are really good right now?

I don't know about additional spots being opened because of Riverview. I hadn't heard about that. However from lurking around this website I have read that a number of people were called to start a semester earlier.

The last I heard was 50 spots per term. I don't think this changed because clinical spots are limited. I don't think people moving up will play a role in how many they admit(for our term) but it would only help those already admitted. Also, it depends on if you have the 3 online classes completed as well. I know a few people who got moved up to May 2010 and I would imagine that would help people like us who are going for Winter 2011.

I think Oakland has a big pipeline of people and they move up people as needed.

I too am hoping our odds are very favorable. We'll know pretty soon I would imagine. They probably already reviewed our key documents and the interview is the 'make or break you' part.

I heard the same thing from quite a few different people as well, and I heard it was because they opened up some more clinical spots. I didn't want to say anything as I only heard from students regarding this so I don't know 100% but it sounds like it could be true.

I am not sure either, but I did hear it from a student who attended an informational meeting last week.

This is great news for all of us if they opened up some spots. It's been about a year since I attended an informational meeting and at that time, they said 50 spots.
