Oakland University ABSN

Hi there, anyone getting ready to interview in the next couple months for the Oakland University Accelerated nursing program? Thought this would be a good place in share experiences! Good luck!

Also, does anybody in the program already have any advice for the next couple agonizing months? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I interviewed earlier this week and felt it went very well. Mine was just over 30 minutes. I was very impressed with the interview process. They try to make you feel comfortable so don't worry about the stress of interviewing. They told me once interviews are completed, they do a final review and begin notifying applicants. So I would imagine decisions will be out shortly after the second week of interviews. My feeling is we will know no later than the end of this month. Good luck to those who are interviewing.

The only other thing I will say is they have different people who conduct the interviews. My friend had different people so questions will likely vary to a certain degree. But I imagine they have to ask core questions of all candidates which I am sure everyone understands what those will be. But I know my interviewers threw in a few challenging questions that my friend did not have to answer so be prepared for an odd ball question or two.

I too interviewed earlier this week and think it went OK...didn't hit it out of the park but think it went OK. Did they shed any light to you as far as the clinicals?

mj: No, not really. I just know that everyone starts at Riverview and then you are placed wherever they can find a spot (beaumont, st. johns, crittenon, etc.)

I am thinking this is the first round of interviews for January 2011 so if you interview fairly well, I would think that there would be a good chance for admittance. What do you think?I just remember hearing that they select the top 50 or so candidates to interview first. But maybe they are interviewing everyone who qualifies?? Not sure. I just hope to hear soon.

When I went to the info meeting I thought they said they interview all eligible applicants because they don't just base on GPA, at least that's what I took from it but I'm not 100% sure.

I interview next week, I have a good idea of what to expect so I'm not stressin too much yet, it's mostly just the waiting that's getting to me at this point. I'm glad I didn't interview this week as I came down with a cold/sinus infection so hopefully it's out of my system by then!

Great job on all your interviews, good luck to you all. Shouldn't be too much longer before we start posting whether or not we get accepted! That day can't come soon enough!

ejcl68: I think that they are interviewing everyone who has met the prereqs. I believe the order in which you interview doesn't mean a thing because you sign up for a slot. Not everyone could interview this week for some reason or another, some just like to go last.

MJ: I didn't mean that if you interview this week over next, you were seated higher. Obviously you pick your slot. I am just going by what they told me, they interview the top candidates(not just based on GPA) in the first round of interwiews. Likely they are interviewing everyone but there's only a little over 90 slots. So if they take 50, that's great odds.

Lets hope for the best....I like the odds too, but who knows? In an earlier post, someone stated that there is more than one group of interviewers....I wonder how that works out in their decision process when they may have not even met you.

I think the interviewers either recommend you for admission or not to the selection committee. I think if you interview well, you will likely get admittance. I hope that's the case. I know my friend interviewed with one of the people from the selection committee and he interviewed very well. So he will probably get in. I interviewed with two professors and hope I made a strong enough impression. To me, I think the interview is the final piece and if you do well, you have a great chance. But I could be wrong. We'll know soon.

I asked about how the final decision is made. The two interviewers stated that it's a point system. The interviewers give you points based upon how well they think you did and then submit them to the selection committee and director of the program. After that process is complete and final decisions are made, then we will be notified.

Hi Everyone,

Good luck to anyone who is interviewing this week! I just had my interview today. The 2 interviewers said everyone is interviewing for the same cohort.

Hi MelBell; Good luck to all of us. If we are interviewing for the same term, I think we have good odds with 50 accepted out of about 90 + interview spots(assuming all are filled). Exciting..Good luck to those getting ready to interview!! Hopefully we all get good news!!
