NYU Fall 2014 ABSN

Published

Hello,

I have noticed there isn't a thread for those applying for NYU Accelerated Nursing Fall 2014. Let's share feedback, advice, stats, etc... I went to an open house today at NYU. They really do stress that since there is no interview, the personal statement is our chance to prove ourselves. They also said they get about 1,000 applicants and a Fall entrance class usually have about 150 students in it.

What part of the application process are you in?

How is the personal statement going?

How many pre-reqs do you have left?

Yea like Nata said, people got accepted at the end of May, I wouldn't assume that...

For people who weren't accepted yet, what are your stats?

Hey everyone!

My name is Danielle, I’ve been following this thread for weeks but this is my first time posting. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted so far! For the rest of us, there’s definitely still hope.

I called last week to check the status of my application. I was told it really means nothing at all if we haven’t heard anything yet because they still have “a lot of reading to do”…also, I wanted to confirm that rejections have been sent out in the last several weeks along with acceptances. I was nervous for a while that perhaps no one has been rejected yet, but the lady I spoke to reassured me that rejections have in fact been going out too soo if we haven’t heard a response yet, I think it’s safe to assume they simply have not read our applications yet and/or they’re waiting to see how many people decline admittance before accepting a lot more.

And as for my stats, I graduated in 2011 with a BA in psychology. My overall GPA was 3.3, and 3.7 within my major. I have a 3.8 in the prerequisites thus far, currently taking A&P II and Chem. Confident I’ll get an A in both. And I’m taking Microbio this summer. I had a lot of leadership experience in college and performed psych research in a neuroscience lab. I worked for 2 years in special ed, and I volunteer at Yale-New Haven hospital along with Planned Parenthood. My personal statement was well written and I had two letters of recommendation from my A&P and Nutrition professors. Let's all try to remain positive!

I would assume that most people would hear back by May 12th since that is the day of the meet and greet for new nursing students.

Hi everyone! I am a nursing student in Metro Atlanta and I am really interested in the summer externship at NYU. Does anyone know what they look for outside of gpa when choosing students to interview? (Are things such as clubs, leadership positions, volunteer experience, etc. of significance or is it just based on gpa?) Thanks!

Hello all! I was accepted last week. Just joined the site. Congratulations to everyone accepted. I'm excited, but unfortunately I might not be attending this Fall if I do not receive decent financial aid. I heard that unless you are accepted in the first batch of acceptances it is very unlikely that you will receive decent scholarship and grants. This means you will most likely have to pay out of pocket or get a large loan and as the weeks go by the less financial aid will be available. That is 76k+ for 15 months. My mother is an APRN and she advised me that it was not wise to take out a big loan for a second degree in nursing when you plan to go back to your MSN and I am. NYU is a great school, but a Nurse is a Nurse no matter what school you go to unlike other careers. There are other schools that offer better aid and lower tuitions. Also if I attend I will be relocating from New Jersey and I have to find housing in New York. The cost of living in NY is high. I'm a little discouraged. Anyone in a similar situation? Also I agree that the decisions will most likely be made by May 12th and after they will accept more, once people decline. I was told they received many applications this year and few open spots. Hopefully this is not the only school you applied to like I. Now I have a dilemma

Hey guys,

Anyone hear anything this morning? Nothing here yet..

None :(

This is more annoying than anything else lol. I am just impatient.

Hi everyone,

I was accepted this morning! I am very confused though. I got into another school as well (actually my current university..2nd degree student coming right out of college). I need to see how much financial aid I will get before I make a decision. How much is the enrollment fee?

For those that are wondering here are my stats: 3.07 cumulative GPA, 3.4 prereq

I guess GPA is not the ultimate determining factor...I did have a lot of work, volunteer experience, shadowing and a recommendation so that probably helped my case.

Congratulations to those who were also accepted!

I know, I'm on my phone like crazy Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
