Hello,
I have noticed there isn't a thread for those applying for NYU Accelerated Nursing Fall 2014. Let's share feedback, advice, stats, etc... I went to an open house today at NYU. They really do stress that since there is no interview, the personal statement is our chance to prove ourselves. They also said they get about 1,000 applicants and a Fall entrance class usually have about 150 students in it.
What part of the application process are you in?
How is the personal statement going?
How many pre-reqs do you have left?
I believe the $25 is over all semesters, not per semester, so def wouldn't cover it, unless I understood it completely wrong? From what I have heard of NYU they would never cover your entire tuition. I was accepted I think on April 5 or 6 .. in the first round of emails that went out. I have heard very positive things about NYU from people who have been there, just don't think it is worth the cost for me.. but I have heard it's a good program and I talked to one nurse in particular who said she definitely did not regret going there and was hired at NYU Langone as a direct result.
I just started using financial aid this year, so I am still learning about it..But so far, at my current school we are awarded an amount of money from the government per semester...So when my financial aid award is posted, it tells me how much money I have been given for that semester...To only be allotted 25K for a program that is around 100K sounds a little low? It is not that NYU is covering your entire tuition, because you are taking out those loans, and ultimately have to pay them back. So essentially NYU is only covering what they gave you in grant or scholarship money. Either way, this is great info, and I probably won't be taking out that much money for a second undergraduate degree.
Nata, it all depends. As I was talking with Dee about it, it depends on how much money you receive in subsidized and unsubsidized loans (this is what you get when you fill out the FAFSA), grants and/or scholarships. If that doesn't cover your tuition then you have to take out a private loan which is HORRIBLE. The unsub and sub loans (as well as a private loan) you would have to eventually pay back. Any grant or scholarship money received you don't have to pay back. If you have to take out a private loan, check with your bank and see what the interest rates are, I know a lot of people who use Sallie Mae. Check out the Sallie Mae website, they have all of this information, and can probably explain it better than I can
Nata... try to set up an appointment with the financial aid office at the school in which you are deciding to enroll. I know that generally, second-degree bachelors financial aid awards don't really compare with first-degree awards. dee, your financial aid even if that 25k is referring to the whole year, is still pretty good for a second bachelors!
definitely pay extra attention to the award letters you are given.. usually schools are just presenting the first fall and spring semesters - not the following summer or fall semesters after that, so make sure you understand if your awards are per semester, per academic year (which may or may not include summer), etc. when they say estimated cost of attendance that # is usually referring to an academic year - not necessarily the length of the entire program. It is all confusing! that's why it's really important to clarify the award letter you receive with someone from the school.
