Hello,
I have noticed there isn't a thread for those applying for NYU Accelerated Nursing Fall 2014. Let's share feedback, advice, stats, etc... I went to an open house today at NYU. They really do stress that since there is no interview, the personal statement is our chance to prove ourselves. They also said they get about 1,000 applicants and a Fall entrance class usually have about 150 students in it.
What part of the application process are you in?
How is the personal statement going?
How many pre-reqs do you have left?
NS14 I visited the campus back in October, I applied a few weeks ago as well. There are information sessions that you can attend. I'm not sure where you live but if you live in the area or close by you should consider it! It was only about an hour or so long but they tell you everything you need to know acros the board. I don't know of anyone who has graduated from the program but if you have any specific questions you want to know I might be able to help!.
Where else did you apply? Is NYU your top choice?
you know, i was originally not thinking of applying to NYU, b/c i didn't think i'd have a chance of getting in, but i am applying to other schools, and seeing how those are going, it's given me more confidence to apply to NYU (not that i have any more chance of getting in here, but it's worth a shot!).
i have yet to start my application, since it's due 3/1 for early decision, or 4/1 for regular. i got into Drexel's ABSN program, have interviews with USD and Samuel Merritt at the end of the month, and was waitlisted at Columbia. If I hadn't gotten these results, I wouldn't have even considered applying to NYU. NYU's my 2nd choice after Columbia, so i'm really intent on creating the best application portfolio I can for this school.
Hopefully we can get this thread going a little bit more? I'm surprised it isn't more active! Other threads on this website (allnurses.com) for other programs I'm applying to that I've seen have been so much more active!
how about you? everyone else? where else are you applying?
Oh congrats on the acceptance! I applied to Oregon Health and Sciences ABSN, University of Washington's BSN (made it to proctored essay round), Seattle University, Washington State University, Bellevue College (ADN), Geogetown ABSN, and Duke's ABSN (made to interview round.. this week). If you can't tell, I'm from washington state haha. I've been debating whether to apply to NYU.
@agsetlur if Columbia is interested then I assume NYU would be too!! Do you mind me asking what your stats are? What are people's thoughts on NYU V Columbia?
NS14, I really hope so! 8) I would also love to hear ppl's thoughts on NYU vs Columbia!
My Profile:
Dual BAs from a UC (psych & econ) with a GPA 3.08 (graduated 2 yrs ago)
Prereqs GPA from 2 community colleges of 3.6 & 3.67
~800 hours of volunteering at hospitals across the Bay Area
GRE scores = 1040 total | 390V (28%ile) | 750Q (75%ile) | 4AW (54%ile)
TEAS scores = Adjusted Individual Total Score 86% | 96%ile total rank
i'm curious as to how other ppl's stats look! >.
I am planning on applying to NYU though, although the price really scares me and I don't know if I can actually bring myself to go to such an expensive school! I am also waitlisted at Columbia, like agsetlur, so for those who are interested .. I have a 3.5 from undergrad, a 3.9 in my prereqs, somewhere around 1100 on the GREs (I took them back when it was the old scoring system, and did really well on the writing and vocab but horrible on the math ... well below the 50% that Columbia asks for lol), and have been volunteering in an ED at an NYC hospital for around 13 months.
I actually have heard that NYU is not too hard to get into, so agsetlur, I think if you were waitlisted at Columbia you should definitely apply to NYU! But it is even more expensive .. :/

I just wanted to caution you- the program has changed so much since 2011 that much of the information in that blog is completely irrelevant at this point. You would probably be better off finding one of the threads from recent classes (spring'13/fall '13 start) and asking questions there.
