NYU Accelerated BSN Fall 2010

Hi everyone!

I just received my acceptance letter to NYU's Accelerated BSN program for Fall 2010. I just wanted to reach out to other accepted students so I thought I'd start a thread! I haven't decided whether or not to accept the offer because of $, relocation, and other things. I have so many questions that I don't know where to start but feel free to share your thoughts!

have u confirmed with them that your application was complete? i saw on another thread that some people who hadn't heard yet called and found out there were issues with their transcripts/ their applications weren't complete and that's why they hadn't heard anything yet. i'd call them, just to be sure about that. I graduated May 2009, however i'm finishing A&P 2 right now because the course i took in my undergrad wouldn't suffice for their requirements. for some reason, i dont think they have sent out all the letters yet so don't count it as a loss! someone on another thread found out she was accepted over the phone, however, they told her she wouldn't receive her letter for a week or two. maybe they send them out in batches? good luck waiting!

Congrats!!! Genuine, I've noticed you received your letter yesterday and you're from Texas, which means...I'll probably hear bad news since I live around New York and seeing as to how you got your letter, but I haven't heard anything yet is pretty much another bad sign for me... May I ask what year you've graduated? Maybe they are still reviewing my app. until after graduation--which will be in May of this year. I'm so frustrated with myself.

fireflies,

i really do suggest calling them to check out your app status as genu9ine says. in my case, there was some confusion about one of my transcripts and luckily i did call and was able to sort it out over the phone this past monday. i then called back today was told i was accepted!! this small issue was holding up my application review and b/c they are so overwhelmed they have only sent out acceptances for those of us that have "complete" applications. in my case i was confident my app was complete, but when i called i was told something different. so this could be the issue in your case. i do not think you have anything to worry about. hang in there. check out my post here: https://allnurses.com/ny-nursing-programs/nyu-accel-bsn-437729-page21.html (hopefully this will offer you some piece of mind)

good luck to you and keep us posted!!

cheers, a

Thank you guys so much! It's so comforting to hear all your motivational words and advice! I hope I can attend nursing school with all of you this fall.

Hello! I too just heard back from NYU two days ago. I live in California. I'm still waiting to hear back from a school in the Bay Area, but it honestly doesn't have the prestige that NYU has. Its a tough decision because I'll be getting married shortly before the program starts, and it doesn't seem like my new husband will be able to relocate with me right away. So I'm trying to decide if I should just stay in the Bay Area and go to a less prestigious school (but equally connected in the Bay Area) or relocate alone and go to NYU. It's such a hard decision - especially since I want to continue with a masters eventually.

Have any of you heard how/if where you got your BSN will influence your acceptance to a high ranked masters program?

hi norcalgal,

i'm in sf! where are you located? and i'll be attending NYU in the fall.. but i just wanted to let you know that my sister received her first bachelors in biology from the univ of CO, then went on to san diego state univ. to get another bachelors in nursing, which is a good school and i know she was very well prepared, but it definitely doesn't have the prestige of a school like NYU. she worked at SF general in the ER for a few years and has now been accepted to Univ of Washington and UCSF's Adult NP programs (number 1 and 2 ranked in the nation)!! she's a wonderful nurse and worked at a great teaching hospital, but i do not think it carries much weight where you attended nursing school as long as you do well (and aren't getting your bsn online or anything). not trying to deter you from nyu b/c i myself wouldn't want to be anywhere else, but i think whatever choice you make will not affect your chances of attending a high ranked masters program. just my 2 cents.

It's good to hear that there are some other Cali folks who were accepted into the accelerated BSN program (I'll be coming from San Diego) ! I've been weighing my decisions between a school in San Fran and NYU and decided I'm definitely going to head to NYU. The San Fran program was an entry level master's, however, I'm pretty sure you have the option to apply to NYU's entry BSN/MSN program after the first semester. I also like that NYU is 15 months. And, who can pass up the opportunity to live Manhattan?

To everyone else attending, are you planning on doing student housing or searching for a place in New York?

As of right now I'm leaning towards housing... But I'm not set on it. Still thinking

most definitely looking for a place in manhattan.. i don't think student housing is ideal at this point in my life (i'm 28). but i do plan on trying to find something close to campus or a short subway ride away.

first of all congratulations to those accepted!! I am getting a bit nervous.. Applied late february but sent my documents to them throughout the next few weeks (transcript had to go thru, letter of recommendation, and that "tell us what courses you've taken where" sheet). Finished with a 3.7 in psyh, with neuroscience classes also completed, from uconn storrs. got a B in a+p, A in stats, A in Chem, A developmental psch. Currently taking micro bio and a+p 2. nutrition is up this summer (sent them proof of enrollment.) Just biting my nails here and hoping... tried to call to see if they received everything and to follow up and received a very rude "we cannot tell you anything, well call you." I live outside of the city so this would be ideal. We shall see i guess. Hope to see you all in the near future!

I haven't decided whether or not I'll accept the offer, but seriously, who says "no" to NYU? I think I might regret it forever but then I might also regret the $90,000 in debt.

Hi ChristinaG123 -- how did you come up with the $90k figure? I found out a few days ago that I got into NYU's program, but I had already decided to attend elsewhere because of the cost. I thought it would be closer to $70k, but I calculated that only based on 64 credits at $1,078 per credit (2009-10 rate), and didn't include fees, books, etc. Does your $90k estimate include living on campus?

Good luck to you guys who will be entering the program. I'd love to go to NYU, but $70-90k of debt is too intimidating for me, especially since I'm planning to get a master's, too.

where did you decide to go?

In case you guys haven't seen this...

It's not too late to apply for the Hillman Scholarship: "Scholarship awards are $18,000 per student, and are dispersed among the four semesters of enrollment in the 15-Month Accelerated BS Program." It requires working in a NYC hospital for at least two years after graduation.
