  1. I'm going to attend the accelerated program at Rutgers.
  2. In case you guys haven't seen this... It's not too late to apply for the Hillman Scholarship: "Scholarship awards are $18,000 per student, and are dispersed among the four semesters of enrollment in the 15-Month Accelerated BS Program." It requires working in a NYC hospital for at least two years after graduation. Here's the link: New York University - College Of Nursing
  3. Hi ChristinaG123 -- how did you come up with the $90k figure? I found out a few days ago that I got into NYU's program, but I had already decided to attend elsewhere because of the cost. I thought it would be closer to $70k, but I calculated that only based on 64 credits at $1,078 per credit (2009-10 rate), and didn't include fees, books, etc. Does your $90k estimate include living on campus? Good luck to you guys who will be entering the program. I'd love to go to NYU, but $70-90k of debt is too intimidating for me, especially since I'm planning to get a master's, too.
  4. I probably need the syllabi to challenge both Human Interactive Processes and Cultural Dimensions, but I haven't gotten a definite answer. I would private message you to discuss this (and the program in general) further but I don't have enough posts to do it yet. I just made this temporary e-mail address: seaside8161 -at- yahoo so you can contact me there, and I won't have to worry about getting lots of spam by posting my usual one on the web :)
  5. I have a bit of information! The tentative date for orientation is May 15th, and they'll be sending us more information soon. They are still "coordinating" everything. Let me know if you've heard anything else.
  6. Hi. I hope some of you current students or grads from the program might see this. I was planning to enter the accelerated BSN program that starts next month, but I'm getting frustrated with the lack of information about when classes start, when orientation is, etc. I've called, but on the occasions when people actually answer the phone, no one can give me concrete information. They say they'll be mailing out the information soon, but the other two programs I've gotten into (Rutgers is my first choice) have sent me this information several weeks ago. So, I'm wondering how your experiences with the program have been. How are classes and clinicals? What do you think of the professors? Hopefully they are more accessible than the administration has been so far. I'll really appreciate any information you can provide. Thanks in advance!
  7. Apparently last year orientation was on April 15th -- https://allnurses.com/new-jersey-nurses/14-month-accelerated-147827.html I called last week and then again yesterday to ask when the orientation will be, but both times I got transferred a few times and then got answering machines. I left messages, so if I get a call back I'll let you know what they say.
  8. Congrats!!! If I have to take any of the challenge exams it'll be for Human Interactive Processes and Cultural Dimensions, too. I've taken a couple courses that are similar, but don't have exactly the same title, so I'm waiting to hear back as to whether those count as equivalent. Have you visited the campus? I haven't yet; I need to figure out whether it'll be better to drive or take the train. Also, do you know when orientation is?
  9. Thanks! I didn't finish all my pre-reqs before applying -- I'm taking Biochemistry and Microbiology this semester. I called last Thursday to ask when admission decisions would go out, and the answer was within a week to ten days, so you should hear back any day now.
  10. I know how you feel -- the wait has been killing me too! I actually just found out I got in today, by e-mail notification. Good luck!
  11. Hi guys. I've read elsewhere in the forums that there is an oversupply of nurse practitioners in certain areas of the country, but I haven't found anything specifically about northern and central Jersey or NYC. Reading about NPs working as RNs because they can't find work as NPs definitely makes it seem like a waste to get the masters. I think i'd probably want to work in primary care or perhaps women's health. Do NPs have difficulty finding jobs in these practice areas in NYC and its metro area? Thanks!!
