NYU ABSN Fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone was applying to NYU for the ABSN program in fall 2017? I'm kind of nervous because my GPA isn't the highest since I had to work all four years to help pay for school which took away from my studying time. I do have work experience in the health care field and a little over 100 hours of health related volunteering. Also, how is everyone planning on paying for school since it is soo expensive?

I sent in 2 recommendation letters from work. NYU website says '1 - 2 professional or academic letters of recommendation are recommended, but not required.' but I believe these will weigh more than I imagine so I am working on getting 1 or 2 more from my previous professors..

I wouldn't send in more than what was recommended.

I agree with Sjos, don't send in more than 1-2 recommendations. The admissions department receive a lot of applications and will likely have time to read 2 letters of recommendation per applicant. Pick your strongest recommendations that best support your application. From what I've read, NYU sends out a the first round of admission decisions in early to mid April (6th-15th). Good luck everyone!

Ah ok thanks for your comment! I won't worry about getting more recs now then :)

Hi! I am applying too! I am going to have one letter of recommendation from work only. I am trying to finish my essay, and will probably submit the application in 1-2 weeks.

Hello @nem90!

I just started my first sequence at NYU this Jan (spring 2017). It took a while to get used to the scheduling and the teaching methods like in patho and the work load in general! I feel a little lost and I don't know any older students in the program. Luckily, I happened to stumble across your posts and

I wanted to ask you a few questions via private message but it didn't allow me to because I haven't been active enough :/

Is there any way we could talk through email?

Thanks so much in advance!!

Hey Guys! I posted on another forum as well, but just to let you know, I'm finishing up my final sequence in the ABSN program at NYU, so if you guys have any questions I'm here to help!

You should be receiving an "NYU Application Acknowledgment" email that contains your Net ID/University ID. With these, you can check your application status online.

Good luck!

Hi! I also applied for the Fall 2017 cohort and am from California. I was wondering how you travel back and forth from clinicals. Do you need a car or do you use other means of transportation such as the subway?

Hi everyone!

I also applied for the NYU FALL 2017 ABSN program! My undergraduate GPA was 3.2 and so far I only took 4 prerequisite AP 1 (B+), PSY (B+), Nutrition (A) and Statistic (A). Taking AP 2, Chemistry now AND Microbiology in summer. I submitted 3 letter of recommendations from my jobs. I been working in Health related field for 4 years. My only worry is that I still don't have the grade for those remaining 3 courses. Do you guys think that will affect my chances for getting in the program? I was told that if I don't get it I need to wait a full year to reapply.

@Ilim

I am still finishing up my prerequisites this quarter (A&P II, Microbiology, Nutrition, and Developmental Psychology) too. I don't think it will affect your chances. NYU, unlike many other schools, doesn't require you to finish all of your prerecs before you submit your application. I've read on previous forums that people got in with the first batch of acceptances while they were still completing their prerecs. As far as needing to wait a year to apply, I'm not sure. I was under the impression you could apply for spring if you were not accepted for the fall start date. That is probably something you would have to ask the admissions department. Best of luck! Hopefully we will all be hearing good news in the coming weeks! :)

Has NYU received any of your transcripts/letters of recommendation? I sent mine through the mail about 3 weeks ago but Albert still doesn't show that they have been received.
