NYU ABSN Fall 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I am looking into applying for the NYU ABSN Fall 2016 program. I was wondering if anyone had any helpful tips and thoughts on what I should know when applying for the program.

I also was wondering if anyone went on Albert and realized that under financial aid, there is information saying aid year 2016, institution New York University; aid description, says no financial aid data available, or no award data available? If you all do, what do you think this means?

It didn't show this before..but now I see it

Hey FutureNurse4,

My pleasure! You actually don't get to make your schedule, it's made for you, which I guess can be a good thing, because there isn't a crazy competition to get the good teachers/classes or off campus hospitals.

You'll be taking four main classes- Health Assessment and Promotion (HAP), Pathophysiology, Adult and Elder I, and Professional Nursing. HAP has a lab component that you have once a week, and lasts about three hours.

With Adult and Elder - you'll have a clinical component that will alternate between an on campus simulation lab thats 5hrs long - mine is 2-7pm on Thursdays, and an off campus clinical at a hospital thats 8hrs long - mine is 7am-3pm on Thursdays as well. It differs depending on whatever schedule they make for you, so the day/time may be different, but always the same amount of hours.

For the lectures, they only meet once a week, so be prepared for 3hr classes lol- mine usually start at 8am, on Mondays I have a HAP lab right after lecture so it's 8-2, Adult and elder lecture is 11-2 and Fridays we have Pathophysiology and Professional Nursing back to back, so it's 8-3.

It seems like a lot of free time in the schedule, but you need every second of free time you have to do work and study lol.

In terms of professors, they're all great. One teacher may be great for you, while being super confusing for another. But all classes are recorded, so I know people will podcast the lecture from the other professor teaching the course if you find you don't like your professor.

Studying tips - don't cram the night before. I used to be a habitual crammer and still did well, but here it's a different story - some classes like pathophysiology are so detailed, that there's no way you could remember all that you need to do well, studying the night before. I'd also ask older students for old study guides they may have made (if any of you come -i'll help you out :) ) they save you a lot of time!

They also give you a lot of little projects or assignments - so just make sure you're organized and on top of all the due dates, because there are a lot of little projects/assignments and it's easy to let something slip.

- my one piece of advice - I personally, came from a university that wasn't big on using computers for everything - here, NYU Classes is your life and a lot of the learning you do is from online modules, your exams are on the computer etc. So, for the first week or two, you'll feel beyond stressed and confused trying to familiarize yourself with the way things are done here, and just adjusting to nursing school in general. Just remember, everyone is in the same boat as you, everyone feels overwhelmed together, so don't be hard on yourself if you feel like you're the only one lost- you're not, trust me lol.

Sorry if it's super detailed, but i figured y'all want the most info you can get - i know i did!

No thank you Nicole!! I appreciate every bit of information. Very helpful !!

Wow Nem90 all of your information was great!! Especially the FASFA breakdown.

I applied and after reading everyone's stats in this post and previous posts, I've come to the realization that my "rush" thru undergrad while working and taking of my son, has greatly diminished my GPA. I was very quantity over quality in hopes of having my career prior to 30, dumbest thing ever lol. I will retake a few pre reqs and apply again for Spring as well as apply to other programs. Good luck to you all, can't wait to see everyone's excitement in the coming weeks =)

Wow, so much information but it's really great. Thanks for sharing! Do you know anything about housing and dorming?

My pleasure guys! My husband is in NYU dental school so we use his grad school loans to pay for an apartment in the city, but I know a lot of people rent places in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island etc and take out extra student loans to pay for it. I don't think many people use NYU housing since it may be cheaper to share an apartment with ppl in your class.

- keep in mind some of the classes don't take attendance, so if you find a place to live that's far away, for some reason you can't make it to class, you can always podcast classes. Sorry i don't know much about the dorming situation!

Hey - if I remember correctly, you don't get to see your financial aid package until you get accepted into the program. It could be there's no data because you guys don't know if you got accepted or not yet.

Sounds great! That's actually very useful information as I'll be coming from Cali í ½í¸

Okay guys, I think we're supposed to hear back today or tomorrow according to Albert?! Anyone? Anything?

Nothing yet for me!! I didn't see a date on Albert regarding decisions being posted

"Admissions decisions for Regular Decision candidates will be released via email on March 31 after 5pm. Decisions will not be released over the phone until April 4th. "

From the website.. maybe they mean regular undergrad (freshman) applicants. They didn't mention anything about ABSN then.
