NYC Nursing Internship/Externship Information

Published

Hey everyone!

I am currently in my second semester of nursing school in a BSN program. I am applying for summer externship programs in the NYC region. I wanted to make this posting to see if anyone has anything to say about the externships/internships that they applied for. If you did an externship/internship (gosh what is the difference?!) maybe you could tell us a little bit about the program and what happened to you after you completed it. Thank you so much everyone!:nurse:

Hi! This is an extremely old thread... But could anyone give me some insight on interviews?! I'm interviewing at NYULMC for their externship program next week and I'd love to get the position. Do many people interview? Thanks!

Ditto at dms419!!

I just got the externship position at NYU in their OR, and I was wondering if any of you could give me some insight on what to expect? I have only received the offer letter and a few pre-hire documents and I'm trying to figure out about how many hours a week I'll be working to see what kind of housing options I should pursue.

Thanks!!

Congrats savyj!! When did you hear back? I interviewed Thursday and haven't heard anything yet.

I interviewed a little earlier than most people and over the phone because I go to UNC-CH in NC, mine was on March 16th. I heard back on the 22nd. I wouldn't worry!

Oh awesome! That's so exciting, congratulations to you í ½í¸Š but for housing I think your best bet is renting an apartment for the summer. It's three 12-hour shifts per week!

Thank you so much that is so helpful. I also am not clear of the end of the program, do you know that? I know it starts on June 12th, just not sure when it ends.

I'm also unclear as to when the program ends. My interviewer told me August, but no specific date!

To the people that already got the internship, can you tell me what the interview was like? What questions did they ask? Thanks!

So, I know I'm a little late to this party, but where did you find the externships listed/what's the application period, usually? Does your role differ from a student nursing position or nursing attendant position?

Thanks!

My interviewer asked me only two questions: tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a patient, and tell me about a time you showed initiative. Interview was super short.

The application is listed on the NYU Langone's careers website. Application period was from January to early March.

Same here, but I had three questions... My last one was tell me about a time you worked as a team (or something along those lines). Have you heard back yet? I haven't ...
