NYC New grad advice on job offer

I am a New grad who recently moved to NYC and have been applying to hospitals for a little more than a month. I decided to apply to a stand alone urgent care facility and I received an offer there but they want me to sign a 1 year contract at $15/hr. I know the NYC job market is tough, especially for new grads but this is about 2.5 times less than I would make in a hospital here. I could go jobless for 6 months and still make the same by this time next year. But would I be stupid to pass this up? Is it sketchy? How much would this help me get a job in the future?

I have also been doing some part time work doing on-site flu clinics through another company.

$15 is way too little and not realistic. You can easily find a per diem job on indeed that will pay at least $20+.

I'm currently working at a place I applied to on indeed (outpatient facility) and I am getting close to $30/hr.

That doesn't sound right, even for an urgent care center. That sounds about right for a nursing assistant's starting pay while still on probation. I wouldn't sign a contract.

Don't even consider this offer. Keep looking. It can take months to find work as a new grad and even longer in NYC. There are a ton of threads here that can give you an idea of new grad salary in NYC. Also research the cost of living before accepting any offers.

Sounds like a scam, you should stay away. You can usually find something in the $35+hr range without much effort.

Unless you are near starvation/destitution, walk away and keep looking elsewhere.

Fifteen dollars/hour is what nursing assistants make in NYC, and that is on the middle to lower end of scale.

Look around to nursing homes, LTC, rehab facilities. That and or as suggested per diem; anything that will give you something more in line with RN wages.

If you are remotely considering this place, I'd do a *Google* search on them first to see if other nurses have reviewed working conditions. My guess is the place is working RNs to death for that $15/hour. Probably with no other staff besides (such as techs or assistants) doctors. You might even be lucky if there is a receptionist/clerical/support. Though if they are paying RNs $15/hr. cannot imagine what they'd offer support staff. Minimum wage?
