Nybon Nursing School Under Investigation

I finished my LPN-RN program from Carleen Health Institute. I took the NCLEX under New York state board and passed the exam. I'd been waiting on the license a couple of weeks and decided to call NYbon, was told the school is under review - hence they would not be issuing any licenses till the review is done. They also wouldn't give a time frame. Does anyone have any idea how long these reviews usually take or what could be done in situations like this?

Thats Northern Marina Islands, you have to call NYBON about that each country and state have there own set of rules amd regulations, you can ask NYBON to send the candidate report to Florida but again its up to the supervisor to make that call.

Actually that's the New Mexico Board of Nursing site... ?

I didn't know, I just went off what I read off the seal on the link you posted, srry but regardless and hope it this all resolves and works in everyone favor!

Yikes! You're absolutely right! I should have known...there are very few oceans in New Mexico...LOL! Thanks for the catch!

I just found this on the NM BON site on transferring NCLEX scores. I would assume a similar process is in place in all states.

"The NCLEX score transfer process allows candidates who have passed the NCLEX, but are not yet licensed in the jurisdiction that made them eligible, to transfer their score to another jurisdiction via NCSBN. The NRB, who initially made the candidate eligible, will need to provide the exams operations team (via email to [email protected]) with a formal letter, from the candidate, requesting the transfer. This letter should include candidate identification information and contain the candidate's signature (a sample template is available from NCSBN upon request).

NCSBN will contact the desired jurisdiction of licensure to confirm acceptance of the score transfer. Upon approval, NCSBN will work with Pearson VUE to transfer the candidate's NCLEX record, in NCLEX Administration, and confirm the successful score transfer to both jurisdictions.

Additional information on the Re-entry and Score Transfer processes can be found in Chapters 2 and 5 respectively of the NCLEX Member Board Manual and NCLEX Administration Manual."

This is all going to be dependent on NY being willing to release the scores to the new BON, from the sound of it.

NYBON was doing it before but as of now, if your education is under review then your scores are on hold until review is over. As of now we also don't know if they will wipe out scores if education is not accepted. The last time I spoke with someone they said I could submit another education but wouldn't have to take the NCLEX again. That's funny as if someone in this situation would really have another education to submit just having passed NCLEX. Really ridiculous if you ask me. Based on what they did with schools from Feds list, they may do the same for educations not approved. It's just a waiting game until they make an official announcement. I pray that let us through or offer some type of conditions to be met instead of wiping everything out. Besides having to start all over, the money lost paying for the education is another thing, @starr2022 Thanks for info and information you have provided thus far. Your input on this would be much appreciated so we can get an idea on where we stand.

When I called Florida BON April 2023 they said if NY is not accepting your license because of your school you can go to a school they are accepting do your RN over and NCSBN will override the system that you can sit for your NCLEX. NYBON & NCSBN will communicate to each other and allow you to sit for the NCLEX. I saw someone say NYBON told them you don't have to retake the NCLEX you just have to complete a new nursing program that they are accepting but on the NYBON website it states you have to submit education that allowed you to sit for NCLEX.

Yes now they want everybody to go back to school and take the NCLEX again. They canceling NCLEX scores you had before

Yes it's true for people that went to the schools on the list NYBON has up but there hasn't been any official announcements for those who passed NCLEX but went to Florida approved schools not on any federal list. I know @starr2022indicated going forward that NYBON would no longer accept a school that is not accredited but they did not make any official announcement for us that have been waiting before any emergency decisions started going into effect.  I really hope that they do not take the same approach that they did with current schools on Fed list.

Exactly they just have an announcement stating on April 18 2023

I know that many seem angry at the NY Board of Nursing for just not accepting the Florida schools' education for sitting for the NCLEX for a NY nursing license - or for revoking the licenses they have.

These FL students are requesting a nursing license from the NY BON. It is never guaranteed that one will be issued a license -  and if they feel uncomfortable with a nurse's background - they have the right to reject it. (And I am absolutely certain that with their limited resources the NY BON would rather be doing other, necessary work than dealing with the FL schools debacle.)

I saw a mention here that the NY Board "should take the student's hard work into account" and "let them through". That's not it works. The NY BON sets the rules for nursing practice in NY -  just as FL does in Florida. Their goal is public protection - period. But, in all fairness, the NY BON does not owe these FL graduates a license. Their anger is misplaced. It should be squarely directed at the FL Board of Nursing and the owners and administrators of these schools. Not the NY BON.

What you are saying is 100 percent true. Our issue with NY BON is communication. Let us know where we stand so we know how to proceed going forward. If you made the decision not to let us through then make it official. It's just time being wasted at this point if they really came to that conclusion.  I just hope for the best. Let's just assume that they are still doing a thorough investigation and will allow those that passed from non fraudulent schools to go through. Just some wishful thinking.

I am waiting for some action on my application from NY BON too. They simply take a very long time (it seems). I graduated from a CA school which is still operating with a great NCLEX pass rate. But, it has taken them six weeks to even acknowledge my application. I know that they are responsible for a huge number of licenses and that their staff is down to a skeleton-crew at this point. Very little seems automated and I know that they are trying to update their systems to gain some efficiencies..but it is taking years apparently.

I'm glad I don't work there - an.d really feel for you guys. "Communication" seems to be something the NY BON really struggles with...

Sigh.
