NY BON Application Status Wait Times

Published

Just wondering if anyone knows the average processing time for a license transfer from another state/country? I applied to have mine transferred about 4 months ago or so.  I sent an email inquiry for my application status a month ago and haven't heard back.

For reference, I'm a NY state resident and US citizen through birth, nursing license is from Canada.

Thanks!

Just curious if you graduated from a school in New York or out-of-state? The timeline you received your ATT on is the usual time frame for in-state schools...

I'm a in-state student. The time line given by the school I attended was way off. I was told not until August would my cohort be able to register for the exam. which was a lie.

If you look at the Application Status chart on the NY BON site - it states clearly that in-state schools are processed in 1 day...which is what happened with your application. I waited 3 months since I was an out-of-state graduate.

Have you considered that perhaps with the staff shortages and churn there that they weren't  "lying".  New staff, uninformed or not understanding your situation, perhaps. It would not be to their benefit to "lie" to you. There would be no point - especially since as an in-state student your application was processed within 3 days. Things are very difficult there right now. A little compassion and understanding might be considered.

I wish you well on your nursing journey!

I graduated from my program June 8 and was lied to. I was told I would have to wait until my school sent over all my information before I could register for the with the board (which they claimed could take up to 2 months).

I registered on 6/27 for my ATT and received authorization from the state on 6/28 and from Pearson on 6/29.

Most schools send it over 2 weeks from graduation date. The school claiming it could take two months was just them covering themselves in case they couldn't meet the two week marker. It's not a lie to say something can take up to two months.

Anyone who's waiting on NEW York boards of nursing and hasn't received license number see if your eligible for you NCLEX score can be sent to the state of your choice. I highly recommend sending it back to the original state it came from. Because it would be less stressful do endorsement just get your license number and if you're no longer living in that state still do it single license And once you receive your number apply for compact license in the state you are currently living in. If you still live in the state your original application was done just apply for license pre boards requirements. This is the best way getting score endorsement if NEW York allows inquire when you call if it's an option base on your school situation. You will be sent a request form to send score once you inquire and ask them to. You should have your license soon with this process.

Hello,

I am an Nursing graduate from India, currently in New York on a work Visa. I have applied for an ATT with NY in June-mid, sent an email to assess the status in August, never hear back. Made a call end of August and they told me my application was sent to review on July 10th 2024, they told me I would need to wait for 8-10 weeks to get an update.

My question is -

Based on what I have read on this thread clearly sending an Email/status update form does not work to understand whats going on with your application, the representatives who pick up the call seem so angry/displeased that we are asking them questions (whichis their job) - that its hard to get a clear response from them.

Is their anyone who applied to NYSED as an international graduate learned about the average ATT wait time? Is there any way for us to know whats going on with our application? If they take however long for the ATT , what might be the processing time for the license itself?

I am under extra pressure as I need to get the ATT, give the exam and get the license all by early next year - or else my visa status here could be in jeopardy.
