Ny BOCES LPN Exam

I completed an LVN program in October 2005 and did not have to take this test. In fact, I have never heard of it until I read your thread just now. So I don't think the test is one standard exam across the country.

I did, however, take an exam called the ERI about 3 weeks prior to completion of my LVN program.

I took it. Just your basic reading and math questions. Highschool stuff. What town will you be attending BOCES at?? I just graduated in July from GVBoces.

This pre-test has always been there, At least in NY. The test generally starts out easy and gets more difficult as u proceed. Make sure you read everything prior to starting. I had to take the math section twice. Simply because I didn't read the directions correctly. It use to be u got your results the same day. I understand now it takes a few weeks. I tested In Troy, NY In 1996. Things have changed since then.

I had to take the math section twice. Simply because I didn't read the directions correctly. It use to be u got your results the same day. I understand now it takes a few weeks. I tested In Troy, NY In 1996. Things have changed since then. Heres a little tip that I was told to use by a trusty clinical instrutor I knew prior to testing. Take a #2 pencil, new one. Sharpen it. Then use a ruler and make 1/4" 1/2" 1" You get the point, notches on the pencil with a sharpe object, such as a knife. Lightly so it's not all that noticable. This certainly came in handy with graphs and math charts that had measurements to determine the answer. I am the worst math taker EVER! If I can do it and pass. So can you. Good luck!

Cheating is defined as writing down answers to questions that don't belong to u. Notching a pencil, in my opinion goes along with part of the learning process. Call it what you want. As stated, I took the test twice prior to passing.

The entrance exam to the NY BOCES program is general knowledge. Reading, reading comprehension, general math with some easy algebra type questions. There are no nursing related questions on it. So leave learning the nursing and brush up on your reading and math skills. I finished the course last June (HFM) , finally got around to taking my boards in January and passed! Good Luck!!

I don't think cheating has such a narrow definition. Under that rigid of a definition, writing down formulas on your hand would be perfectly acceptable since they didn't involve answers that didn't "belong to you". The questions that ask for answers, as they relate to measuring distance, were intended to determine if the student could accurately assess relationships pertaining to distance. If you have a notched pencil, you are not assessing the relationship, you are in fact knowing the relationship because of your use of a home made ruler. If notching a pencil were a part of the learning process:

a. You would not have had the desire to hide it.

b. The test proctors would have given out rulers.

I'm sorry, I did not mean to hijack your thread. I realize this is off topic for the subject at hand. I also do not mean to offend you. What you said caught my eye and I responded. I think it's an interesting issue (cheating and its various forms as they relate to personal ethics) but perhaps this is not the correct forum to debate it. I certainly did not mean to make this a personal attack, but I would like to say that I do not think it is appropriate to give a test taker the advice that you gave, because it clearly is cheating. I personally would not want to have anyone on my healthcare team who cheated to pass their entrance exam.

I took the NY BOCES LPN Entrance Exam yesterday and passed! Yeah! Classes start at the end of March at the DCMO BOCES for me and I'm already nervous.

As for the test itself, it was pretty easy, just highschool math and reading comprehension. You may want to brush up on your fractions (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, reducing, ect.) if you've been out of school for awhile. There's also a section at the end with lots of personal questions that is supposed to rate your stress levels and ability to cope with stress. But I'm not sure how accurate because my job is supposed to be my biggest stress...but I'm not working! And my family is supposed to give me my least amount of stress...huh? Whoever came up with the rating system doesn't have a preemie at home! 25 weekers can be tough! And he's already one, but things certainly aren't getting easier!

P.S. Not to butt in on the notches on the pencil thing...but the test is on a computer so I really don't think this would help you since we didn't have to measure anything.

I'm taking it at Southern Westchester BOCES, hoping to get in FT next Sept.

I'm still anxious about the exam, but I think one advantage I might have even if I screw up is I have almost 2 years of college (I was originally majoring in psych, and the LPN is easier for me to complete over the RN right now) and one of my reference letters is from my abnormal psych professor, whose class I got an "A" in.

I'm just hoping for the best....

I am trying to get LPN COURSE FROM BOCES ON SEPTEMBER,as i have ample of time to attend LPN i decided to join for CNA for time being so that i can get some ideas of Nursing Field,Moreover,i would like to know how will be the boces entrance exam for LPN??what book should i study for my entrance exam?

after registering will they give an booklet to prepare??

i know lots of you already had your exam and gone through all this so your advice and help is kindly appreciated.
