Hey all! Starting a thread for those applying to NVCC (Northern Virginia Com Coll) for the spring nursing program! This is my second time applying - tried for last Spring but didn't make it - my grades are a mix of mostly B's and some A's and I got 87.5, 80 and 90 on my TEAS sections. I really wish they'd let us use LORs or at least consider work experience. And I'm so glad they raised the TEAS requirements back to 78 - I heard that threw everything off for last year and that's why so many people applied. I also heard that they are accepting more people overall this year, so fingers crossed!!!
May the odds be ever in our favor
What were your grades for bio 141/142/150
it seems that while TEAS scores were important, the science grades made the difference. I found this on their website.

This is admittedly old, but it shows that they cared about the science grades back in 2015. No mention of degrees, or co-requirement courses at all.
Yes. What matters is your science GPA.
Matters now or then? well, what I read is that an A in the BIO counts as one point. More than one A will not be considered for administration of more points. See, just try to score in the 90's and above 85% on TEAS, get two A's in the three BIO.
For now, how do we cross this PSY 231 hurdle?
What is happening? Look on this thread. Someone was accepted with an average score of 89%. You have 91% from scores you posted. Surely, it is not GPA difference. Something is up. I have a 86% average. 100, 79, 80.Please how do you guys score so high in reading and english. Help please.
HELP here too! my lowest score is in English =( 79% what books do you guys use?
Hi Lovefamily and everyone,
Sorry to just jump into this thread, but I'm hoping to provide some insight. I was accepted into the program with a 4.0 GPA in my prereqs (BIO 141, BIO 142, BIO 150) and TEAS scores of Math: 100, Reading: 91.5, English/Language: 95.8.
They are changing their curriculum and admissions requirements. Up until this point, I believe they only took prereq GPA and TEAS scores into account. From Fall 2019 and on, applicants are required to have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Hopefully this will give people a better advantage. I'm guessing this means they will be looking at full academic history, and not just the last 12 credits.
PSY 230 is a new prereq, and after Fall 2019, they will no longer be accepting NAS 161/162. They will require BIO 141/142. You have other options for taking prereqs, so don't give up because the PSY 230 class is full. I took my prereqs through Johns Hopkins University. It was very expensive, but it was a great experience. It's fully online, so it's great for people who work part/full-time. You can also take prereqs through George Washington University, or Portage Learning. Portage is great because it is self-paced, and requires no textbooks. Since it is self-paced, you do not have to wait to sign up on a certain date, so no worrying about missing deadlines. I would check with an NVCC academic advisor to make sure that the credits will transfer, because requirements could have changed.
Hope this helps!
