NVCC Spring 2018 Hybrid Program

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey all! Starting a thread for those applying to NVCC (Northern Virginia Com Coll) for the spring nursing program! This is my second time applying - tried for last Spring but didn't make it - my grades are a mix of mostly B's and some A's and I got 87.5, 80 and 90 on my TEAS sections. I really wish they'd let us use LORs or at least consider work experience. And I'm so glad they raised the TEAS requirements back to 78 - I heard that threw everything off for last year and that's why so many people applied. I also heard that they are accepting more people overall this year, so fingers crossed!!!

May the odds be ever in our favor

For the last hybrid application, decision letter week out during thanksgiving break.

Cleo, using dates will not work. Remember they have been shifting application period recently. All I can say is it does not get to five weeks. By four weeks from application close date, expect a decision.

Hello guys,

Have all of you received the processing email from NVCC. I have not received mine yet. I have send it through UPS and don't know if it matters. I heard from the office that they are only accepting 30 students this year. I am really in shock because if it is only 30 then I don't have any chance at all. If you guys don't mind, will you share your grades and teas score so that we can guess where are we at atleast. Hoping for the best for all of us..

I have already posted my scores, however it is really disappointing to hear they might only take 30 people. :( I really thought they would take more than that.

Hi Cleo1997,

Yes, it is really disappointing. Let's see what happens. Do you have any plan B? I never thought it would be this hard to get in to NOVA. That's why never thought about plan B. Now I have to wait for fall program which has also no guarantee that I will be able to get in. I don't know should I wait or look into different schools such as ECPI. Please share if anyone has any plan B or any suggestion. Thanks in advance.

My plan B is applying to Mason's program, However taking the HESI makes me nervous. This is my second time applying to NOVA's program. I am currently a student at Mason taking classes for a community health degree but it just wasn't what I expected it to be. Thankfully I had already gotten my Associates of Science degree at NOVA. I will also be applying to the sonography program as a plan B. I would not recommend ECPI though. I went to their Manassas Campus and was given a complete run around. They are very expensive and honestly don't have the best reputation based on what have others have told me.

Thanks for sharing your plan and also letting me know about ECPI. I will apply one more time for RN program at NOVA. I heard that it is very hard to get into BSN program at Mason. That's why never looked at their program and what are their pre-requisites etc. Whenever you get a chance will you share how did you prepare for Mason's BSN program? I will greatly appreciate it.

I remember that. Crappy way to start break, AND they sent generic rejection letters. I was so pissed...

What's your backup plan Cleo? I've started also taking classes towards UMD's nursing program - they look at the whole academic career and take work experience into consideration, as well as LORs.

Has anyone received application processing email from NVCC yet? I have not received mine. I am kind of worried now.

I have not received any processing email as of yet. I was guessing we would have final decisions by the end of October at latest, but NOVA can be unpredictable. I'm going to try and give student services a call today and see if I can get any information. Also, does anyone personally know of students currently in the program and what they have to say about it? Just curious. Thanks for the intel so far guys, keep us updated!

Hi everyone- I have also applied. I think email may depend on when application was submitted. When did you submit? They go in order from date received. I got a confirmation mine was received on September 15th. Don't worry, my experience with them is not everything is done right away. I believe it says allow 3 weeks from deadline to get processing email.

So I just called student services at the MEC. The women on the line said they haven't sent out any processing emails yet and that they will be sent out all at once. I'm not sure if this is confusion or misinformation...I did receive my USPS confirmation of delivery, if that happens to be what you guys are talking about. She said the timeframe is anywhere from 4-8 weeks for everything to be sent out (all the way to final decisions). I also asked if they had any stats or info on how many applicants there are or how many spots are available but she said she had no clue. I was a bit scared to call as my experience with NOVA employees has generally not been good, but she was nice. She did take my name however, so I don't know if that's a point against me...haha.
