Hello , Everyone I'm a third semester student at Northern Virginia Community College and I know this is a bit early to be inquiring about nursing school but I just would like to get a head start on getting to know everyone interested in applying! I'm excited for the upcoming semester! i have some ice breakers to get this conversation started as well. Has anyone taken the TEAS test yet and if so how was your experience? and also do you have any remaining classes to take before applying.

I spoke with them and they told me that while retaking the class will certainly increase my my chance of getting accepted , having a high TEAS score will also increase my ranking. She said to consider the pros and cons of retaking; the cost and times and also If I end up with a lower grade, then that will be counted toward my gpa. I have decided to just retake it. I am planning on putting a lot into studying for the TEAS to get a good score. What study material are you using to prepare for TEAS?

I hope to also apply to GMU and VCU.

Yea i agree it would increase your chance of getting accepted, i myself retook anatomy and physiology and failed it the first time around, GPA is a 3.7 and my grades in the prerequisites are SDV=A BIO 141=A ENG=A PSY 230=A And I've taken plenty of electives, now I'm preparing to take this teas test but I'm not sure how to study this science section !

Hey Khallera i was just wondering on the nursing application do they ask you if you have a degree, and any work experience ?

so do they look at only your prerequisites GPA? Or overall? How do they calculate the GPA? I have As in all of the above. For psy, I will find out in few days. and I will be retaking the anatomy so gpa for prerg will be around 3.7.

I was told that having a bachelors degree and also work experience is a plus. So I kind of hope they do.

Shaybee- The application will not become available until January so unfortunately I don't know for sure. Don't quote me on this, but I feel like i read in one of the previous discussions that they actually do not ask you about work experience. It was a while ago so maybe ill take some time and read through some of them again.

Does anyone have more info about the "high school Biology and Chemistry" requirement? I am 29 and I took high school bio and chem in like, 2003-2004. Seems odd that those classes would be relevant unless you are applying directly out of high school?

ShayBee- I have the Kaplan study book. It has 2 practice tests. The science section will be primarily A&P and i heard Microbiology as well.

hey hope I was just wondering who told you this, and thats great that ur retaking

Yea a C and above is required for both of them and yea their still relevant surprisingly, double check with mec just to make sure

It was by someone who applied. But I spoke to the MEC counselor and here is what she said when I asked if we can include that information: "You can, however it will not be looked at." WHAT?! that just sucks. I mean I am really disappointed. and also for the gpa, she told me its based on all the courses I have take at NOVA or most recent college. I thought it was mainly the prerequisites gpa that was looked at? I am so confused because I keep being told different answers!
