Hello , Everyone I'm a third semester student at Northern Virginia Community College and I know this is a bit early to be inquiring about nursing school but I just would like to get a head start on getting to know everyone interested in applying! I'm excited for the upcoming semester! i have some ice breakers to get this conversation started as well. Has anyone taken the TEAS test yet and if so how was your experience? and also do you have any remaining classes to take before applying.

I would get it started now through Castle Branch. They complete the background checks in only a matter of days. The results are automatically available to the department, which means it's doesn't have to be submitted along with your application.

It says complete background check prior to applying. I don’t know why they didn’t add it anywhere else, it’s literally just here

I was very confused by the checklist because the FAQ page says the physical and background check "are not required to apply to the program". I even emailed them pointing out that these two pages are completely contradictory. Their only response was, "You complete the background check when you apply to the program.", which honestly didn't help much. I just wanted to know if I needed to do it before or after submitting the application.
I called the office later, and they said you could do it either way as long as you know you are definitely going to submit the application. I assume that's so you're not paying for the background check if you decide not to apply?
I did it right after submitting my application, but I haven't gotten any emails since the submission confirmation. It says it might take 8 weeks after the deadline to get any notification.
I hope this helps!
Hey guys,
So I called the medical campus and I spoke to them. I was informed that I would be submitting the background check only after I recieve the acceptance email. She told me this is true for the 2019 fall applicants. phew I can breathe a little now. But I still am submitting the background check today. Just in case. it's so nerve wracking to wait. Good luck to everyone who applied!

"We understand that in some situations it may be difficult to obtain your international transcripts and to have them evaluated for U.S. equivalence. Under these circumstances, a student will need to take the General Education Development (GED) test and, if you are applying for admission to any of the Nursing tracks, complete the following courses either by taking classes at NVCC or through Nursing ABC: BIO 101, CHM 101, and MTT 4 or higher."
I’m taking BIO 101 and MTH 154 this semester but I don’t have a GED because I already finished high school and I had my transcripts with me. I just didn’t know it had to be evaluated. These info should be in their requirements list, not in forums sections. Not everybody digs deep into forums. Their requirement list should be as accurate and informative as possible. I’m really pissed off at how they did this. The information session and the official nursing application checklist did not mention anything about this.

“This cycle is a mess and is making me reconsider my application” honestly, this is SO ACCURATE. I’m in this nursing group in Facebook and pretty much told them about my frustrations on how NVCC doesn’t really clarify and specify all the information. It’s like they really don’t want people to get into the program, lol. All of the nursing students from different schools said that the whole application system in NVCC seems so confusing and it’s like they’re not even helping the students in any way at all, instead it’s like they’re trying to bring everybody down. Lol.

But I guess that automatically takes me out of the criteria since it wasn’t evaluated. Plus, with the huge number of applicants who have completed requirements will definitely be chosen than me. Sigh. Time to look for other programs and schools to apply to!
Yes I agree their application process and very confusing. I never knew about that blog. The one thing I never hear is the students that are in or graduated from the program. I wonder what their opinions are of the program?

I have a friend that got in back in 2016 but she’s not saying anything about the program but I could ask her. I know about 4 people who tried so hard to get in but couldn’t. Another friend of mine tried for 2 years, put him on waitlist but it just never worked out for him.
