NVCC or Global Health..which should I choose?

You could contact George Mason and ask them if they accept classes from Global health. I have never heard about Global health. Have you finished all the pre-reqs for NVCC? Best of luck

I am in the same boat!! I have been looking at Global for some time now. Their RN program is not accredited yet. Therefore, none of the credits you take with them will transfer to GM or anywhere else. You will be able to transfer credits you already have into their program upon their approval. Another issue is you are not eligible for financial aid. Their LPN program is accredited by NLNAC and leads me to believe their RN program will follow. They will not be eligible for accreditation until their current RN class graduates in May of 2009.

I don't want to wait forever for NVCC either! However, I am nervous to start Global in the Spring if something happens with their accreditation status and we have already invested time and money.

I have been calling around to area hospital nursing recruitment offices and all but one will hire a graduate from a non-accredited school. VHC, is the only one that said, "As long as you passed NCLEX and are licensed, they will hire." If you look on INOVA or WHC sites, they all indicate you need to be a graduate of an accredited program.

Let me know what you decide!! I am really obsessing over this decision...but it is important we make the right choice for our education!!

I just got off the phone with someone at Global and they told me that they are actually waiting for their financial aid code so they should have it by the summer semester and they are also in the works to get accredited so says the women anyway...I dont know how far to trust that because she also told me that one student just got accepted in to GM but she didnt know the situation with her credits but she said she "knows" that the credits will transfer. I dont see how thats possible if their not regionally accredited! Hmmm with all this im thinking now my choice is either LNP program (as to not waste time and money at GLobal but still be on the fast track to GM) at Global then apply to GM, or wait the forever wait at NOVA. BUT Ive also been throwing ANOTHER idea around in my head...depending on the intensity of Global I was thinking maybe I could go to nova at the same time (maybe like 1 class a semester) and by the time I got my LNP then I have knocked at out least 3 or 4 GM prerequisite's...I guess thats another option, one that I think would be better then taking a full 2 years are Global just to have to repeat some of the SAME classes again at GM and have to pay again as well.

Yep!! We are on the same page. I am on the list at Global already for the eve. LPN program. My line of thought is...get my LPN, continue taking some pre-req's with NVCC (online, A&P, etc.) graduate with the LPN and get some experience, then apply for a bridge program. Because the LPN is accredited this should work fine. I was also told by recruitment at ECPI that a LOT of students are doing this...LPN and then bridge. It may work better for us to go this route. I REALLY want to go straight to RN or BSN, but I don't think it is in the cards in the amount of time I want to accomplish my goals.

I have no doubt that we will receive a fantastic education at Global. I do know that VHC has hired their LPN grads. INOVA does not hire LPN's anymore. But the point is to get experience. If you read any job posts, they all want experience.

Im curious about this one, the LPN program is $9000 which caught my attention only because its $2000 cheaper then Global. I havnt spoken with a admission rep yet but the website doesnt feel as solid as Globals and Im also not sure about the pass % rates and accreditation ect ect.. This is something I just found while I was searching the web. I also dont see anything about financial aid on their site to, so even though its 2000 cheaper I think the financial aid will make it so much easier in the summer for me..hmmm just a thought. Although to be honest Im really leaning towards Global at this point, they seem to get nothing but high marks from people. I want to join the morning class at Global, its to bad your doing the evening or we would have been cohorts in class! Its always nice to feel like your not alone in your struggle you know?

I have tried and tried to get ahold of that school! I don't think they are there anymore. And they were not accredited. I went to the NLNAC website to confirm what schools are accredited in our area (I am in Alexandria) and Global was listed along with ECPI which is in Manassas. I am not sure of the tuition rates there. You can apply for financial aid with Global for the LPN program. I know, I wish I could attend during the day but I have three boys under the age of four and can't afford to send them to childcare and tuition!! My husband can keep them at night, so that works best for me. Good luck to you! Hopefully we will get some more feedback from some seasoned nurses on our plans!! Oh, I did want to mention that volunteering at a local hospital while attending Global would be a good idea. I have read on some threads that volunteering will count toward experience after you get licensed and help with finding a job!

Im so torn between which school to attend for an A.A.S. for nursing..I want to do NVCC because Its more affordable, but its so competitive now I feel like it ill be a long while before I even get to start! Which is why Im considering Global Health in Alexandria. Either way I want to end up at George Mason..Also on a side note I know that NVCC credits transfer well to GM, does anyone know how well Global's credits will transfer? Their website says their credits are transferable, but im just wondering if anyone has any advice or input on this matter. I just dont want to be stuck waiting for the nova program, from what the women tells me at nova it could be over a year! Thats way to long for me to wait to even start! To be honest im leaning towards Global health....someone pleaseeee give me some feedback!!!

I am in my first semester of nursing at NOVA. I was accepted with my first application. There wasn't a wait list at the time I applied which was in May 08. The longest part about being eligible to apply for the nursing program is completing ALL the prereqa and then taking the nursing pre-admission test. If you have completed all your pre-reqs, then study for and take the the HESI preadmission test, once you pass that apply for the NOVA nursing program during their application period.

I read through the messages about Global and since they are not accredited, I would be hesitant on spending all that money and time. I believe there LPN and CNA programs are accredited.

The Adult Continuing Education Program under Fairfax County Public School also ofers an LPN program. I don't know the cost, check the FCPS website and click on "ACE"-adult continuing education program and courses. if you are thinking of the LPN program, factor in the time it takes to complete the LPN vs the time it takes to complete the RN program at NOVA or Global.

I've worked in higher education and with admissions/transfer credit for over 20 years. Universities award academic credit for courses taken at other academic institutions.

Schools need to have NLN or CCNE (as well as state Board of Nursing) accreditation for you to be able to sit for the NCLEX. But the transfer of credit would be different. For example, we have students apply for transfer to the RN-BSN completion program who are RN diploma grads from programs in Virginia. We can only transfer credit for courses that appear on a community college transcript.

If you are planning on enrolling in the BSN program at George Mason, contact them and see what their requirements are for credit transfer.

I am a student at Global and wanted to address some things said.

-The program doesn't have to be accredited by the NLN or CCNE to sit for the boards. The program isn't accredited by either and their RN graduates have passed boards and are working at hospitals.

- Whether a University or college accepts credits from another school doesn't have anything to do with NLN accreditation. Global doesn't take some credits from other schools,including NOVA, it just depends on the curriculum.

-If you leave in the middle of the program, the credits will most not likely transfer, but if you finish the program your degree will transfer and your license will give you credit towards your BSN.

-There was a former RN student speaking in orientation that is going to Mason and working at Washington Hospital Center. Another RN graduate that came to orientation is working at Inova Fairfax Hosital

- The RN program, however, should be accredited by next year. They have really high standards (85% to pass all classes) and a strong curriculum and their LPN program is accredited by the NLN.

- The RN program is 18 months ( including 3 mos of prereqs) and the LPN program is 12 months. I dont' thnk the LPN program is really worth it if you plan on getting an RN right away...the diffrence is only 6mos.
