NVCC Fall 2008

Hello-

I'm new to this forum and was wondering are there any NVCC Nursing students here? I have applied for nursing program at NVCC Fall 2008-heard it's a competative program this year. Has anyone received their acceptance letter for Fall 2008? To the existing students, any advice for new students? Thanks!

Admission is competing starting this fall. A friend of mine was at the Springfield campus last week and heard from one of the department secretaries that they'd mail out the letter on the 11th? I'm not sure how much truth is in that but you should get it pretty soon(since the deadline was on the 25th and they said they'd mail them out about two weeks later). Good luck!

Hmmm, advice . . . don't get behind in the reading! I'd love to say a few things about some of the professors but that's not allowed here. If you send me a PM I will tell you though!

Best of luck!

me too! I took the CPR class last week and there were about 5 of us asking the same question, when are the letters going out? one faculty member told us to be flexible, that increased my anxiety a bit with all kinds of wondering "what ifs" :) Good Luck!

Like Krenee stated, dont fall behind on the readings! One pretty much has a written exam every 2 weeks, a few times one has 3 weeks between exams, so one would like to slack off on the reading, DON"T,lol Many of the books used for NUR 111, NUR 118 lectures have "work" books, purchase those, they help a fair bit.

i got accepted into NOVA! I got the letter today which was surprising.

Congrats!!! Do you have to attend an orientation meeting prior to course commencement? Math test?

Yes it says, "If you do not attend this mandatory orientation, your slot in the program will be forfeited and given to another student applicant. This was a very competetive process."

Its on July 29th from 9 am to 12 pm...And yes it has the math test...

Can someone PM me where I go to get the liability insurance and the background check? I lost the paper with that information on it...I would definitely appreciate that!

Hey All, I I received my acceptance letter! My orientation is 7/30. I'm so happy! How many more math testes will I have to take? :)

Lets see what we had to do last year:

1) math exam at orientation. pass that one, your safe for awhile. fail that exam, then those people had to sign up for another math class, think someone stated it was 8 weeks in duration. Study that math package, lol

2) In the first semester I believe we had a practice dosage exam, it didnt count, but gave you an idea of what was coming in the second semester. 20 questions, one requires 90% to pass.

3) We had the real dosage exam early on in the second semester. One gets two tries to pass, if not, your out, simple as that, lol One fellow had a high 90 average in the theory, but didn't pass the dosage exam and he was shown the door. Ours was 20 questions, 90% required to pass.

4) We have another dosage exam 2nd week of Fall 2008 classes, and there will be another in our last semester.

The questions are not super hard--at least not yet,lol but people rush, and don't read the whole question. other common mistakes are not rounding off properly. and forgetting the zero, ie .75 is written as 0.75 no zero, its wrong!!! and there are a few tricky questions like you get the answer of 5ml, but you didn't read the whole question and they wanted the answer in tsp (1 tsp)

You get an hour to do the 20 questions, so take ur time and double check your work, its not a race. And of course the info I passed on above was based on last years program, so yours may differ. Congrats
