Hi! I have a job offer as a community health nurse in central london community health care under the nhs trust...i will either be assigned in london or hertfordshire... So im just wondering which of the 2 is a better place to stay with regards to the cost of living, i mean which of the 2 is cheaper... I would gladly appreciate if somebody can give me a breakdown of monthly expenses both in london and hertforshire esp the rent payment and the council taxes... Btw i'm a filipino nurse so i would highly appreciate if a fellow filipino nurse can share his or her actual expe ses in london or in hertfordshire...actually i already did some research and i cant find much info on hertfordshire cost of living so can anybody from hertfordshire maybe share his or her monthly expenses...thank you so much in advance for your reponse...

Cost of living in London is very high, if you are looking for the cheaper option Hertfordshire would be it.

+1. Also look up various supermarkets like Asda, Tesco, Salisbury for ideas on food costs.

Housing and commuting will be your main expenses. Food seems to be cheaper in the UK than the US right now!

Check out Gumtree for rentals and estate agents like Your Move to buy, but it will all be out of your reach as a Band 5.

My monthly minimum spending is £1000. It comprises of £600 rent in shared bedroom flat in zzone 3, all bills (my half), travel card and around £200 for food and some cheaper cosmetics. What is above I save or buy clothets etc. If you are going to work in central London then no point to live outside London. You will pay a lot for monthly ticket and spend ages commuting. You will have same monthly costs like in London. You cant also afford to rent anything on your own from band 5 salary.

Hi! Definitely, cost of living in london is higher than in hertfordshire. But you will have an additional pay in london although you wont feel it because it will just go for your rent. Average dorm price in london is £600..it is just a room, mind you.

I lived in hertfordshire almost a year ago and i worked there as RN. Now, i am in the US..
