Ok I am a 24 yr old male thinking about nursing. I work in the IT field and hate it. The nite shift is the main turn off . I cant tolerate a night shift position whatsoever.
Im thinking about going for an RN either ADN or BSN. I want to get into education and teach eventually
Well as a male could any of you guys tell me the good and bad of nursing as a male. I woudl like the 'raw' honest opinions.
Nursing would pay more money than I make now. IT Jobs are soooo scarce and I want something thats more people oriented.
So Im either thinkign about education or nursing
Thanks
what is it that you find so "bad" "hard" about working nights? ive worked nights for over 5 years i dont know why i like it i just do. also on nights you get to avoid some of the crap that goes on but that said nights have there own sort of problems to deal with
True
The big benefit to working nights. You can get off and go right to the golf course, works for me
hi,
i am a final year male nursing student. there are already wonderful advises to your question. but, being a male nurse after working as personal asstt. for 10 year, i personally feel nursing is much much better than working worthless. off course particularly nursing has developed an image of well paid profession. nursing is not all about what bucks u get or how you are wellcomed in the professiion, it is all about what you think +vely or -vely. it is all about your personal qualities, personality and qualification. it is all bout how you are trained and how you implement your training, how you adjust into the profession not how they adjust you, about how you handle ur fellow professionals and ur patients. i being a male really enjoy my work as an asstt. nurse and now final year nursing student than what i did before. if you have great sense of humour, great common sense, problem solving nature and finally a good heart. if your have. don't care who won't accept you, think how many will accept you, does't matter male or female. best of luck.
" man i wish they would just come in get their assignments and go with it. with guys you could just pretend cry and say something like aaahhh poor little guy has to walk an extra few feet boohoo. dont even think of doing this to a women or some of the fairy guys you find in this field, there just so sensitive."
While I know you mean, "they're just so sensitive," it really bothers me that you find it unacceptable to use the b**** word and use asterisks to get your point across, but making fun of a feminine man by calling him a fairy is completely unacceptable.
"ok i will get a talking to about this but, if your single, there are so many horny girls you will be working with. a good thing i think.:) will not say anymore about this but could say a whole lot more. lots and lots more;) "
I have a strong feeling that you may be similar to many of the heterosexual male nurses I have encountered who feel obligated to prove their masculinity by talking about their sexual conquests. Would it be acceptable for a female nurse to comment how she loves having males work on the floor because she gets to stare at their butts all day? I am so proud that you could say "a whole lot more. lots and lots more." Hopefully you're contributing to these women's increased risk for cervical cancer by being one of her many partners! Go you! It isn't necessary to prove your masculinity to the world, male nurses have enough to worry about.

???? what are talking about?
well i have to live with fairy men so you have to live with me calling them fairy men, if the shoe fits. or maybe girly men is a better saying. so call me a brut, some how i think i will get over it.but making fun of a feminine man by calling him a fairy is completely unacceptable.

na your way off. was not trying to prove myself in any way. never even talked about any women i hooked up with. but you think people dont hook up in the hospital than your thinking is very naive. and the ratio just gives guys more opportunity, you can not see that?
yes, it would be. BTW this does happen very often. maybe you are just naive.Would it be acceptable for a female nurse to comment how she loves having males work on the floor because she gets to stare at their butts all day?
why would you even say this. are you bitter about something or just wish bad things on others. just because one can sleep around does not mean they do, besides never said anything close to saying i do.I am so proud that you could say "a whole lot more. lots and lots more." Hopefully you're contributing to these women's increased risk for cervical cancer by being one of her many partners! Go you!
never tried, but being as sensitive as you are i am geussing you play on a defferent field than i. perhaps even a different game althogather. It isn't necessary to prove your masculinity to the world, male nurses have enough to worry about.
so i can not type and was not writing an essay. BTW it is not a contest so why do i win. if you quote my post and give negitive feedback with those rationals, you should expect a reply like you got. i see you are full of sarcasm. have some pent up anger or just avoiding some other feelings. you may not agree with what i have to say but no need to start off with childish sarcasm. or are you just trying to flame up the thread.

thatoneguy - I'm not choosing sides, nor am I a Mod here, but as your allnurses.com friend... chill dude. USIJurgy is a young lady [22 yrs old] and looks like ya'll with have to both agree to disagree. Otherwise, I don't see a common ground being reached, except ya'll both care about patients. She might try to thinking of your original post as a guy speaking to guys talk. Your line about fairy guys may not have been politically correct, yet I understood what you meant.
... peace out

You need to stop with the "fairy men" stuff.
I can't believe that these comments are coming from a licensed health professional. Scary.
yeah maybe your right. but this is what got me.thatoneguy - I'm not choosing sides, nor am I a Mod here, but as your allnurses.com friend... chill dude. " Hopefully you're contributing to these women's increased risk for cervical cancer by being one of her many partners! Go you!"
dont think this needed to be said. also think using fairy is not as bad as wishing cancer on someone. if she did not like me using fairy, cool, but dont go here. seems more acceptable to wish cancer on someone, sarcasm or not. wishing cancer on someone should not be more acceptable than using the word fairy. BTW check this about the word fairy
1. fairy
a male who acts slightly feminine but not neccessary means that they are gay.
look at that guy over there, what a fairy.
2. fairy
1) A little magical sprite with insect wings. Usually either grants wishes or wreaks mischief.
2) A gay man who acts more stereotypically feminine than most straight women.
"Do you really expect us to believe that there's a fairy in your mother's garden?"
"Have you noticed that as soon as Joe came out, he turned into an utter fairy?"
3. fairy
A male homosexual (rude and derogatory)
Her boyfriend lost his job because he called the manager a fairy.
so the word fairy means a feminine man in urban text.
really, saying i hope you increase the risk of cancer in women sounds better coming from a lic professional? here is the definition of fairy.you need to stop with the "fairy men" stuff.i can't believe that these comments are coming from a licensed health professional. scary.
search dictionary:
fair-y (fâr

noun:
pl. fair-ies
this is not the urban text but the dictionary definition or the word fairy.
yeah maybe your right. but this is what got me." hopefully you're contributing to these women's increased risk for cervical cancer by being one of her many partners! go you!"

thatoneguy - some are finding that phrase, fairy men, offensive. in fact, i read another reply of your's where you defined the word fairy...
notice when the word fairy is used to describe a homosexual man it is usually done via offensive slang. merrian webster will tell you offensive slang is insulting & extravagant figures of speech.
however, if i understand you correctly you were thinking more along the lines of a gay man who acts more stereotypically feminine than most straight women when you first mentioned the phrase fairy men, right? if so, your intentions were not offensive, imho.
