Nursing Textbooks

Hello everyone I will start my nursing program in January and I was wondering which textbooks I should buy and which should I rent. Some of the courses I will take are:

1. Intro to Nursing Profession I

2. Intro to Nursing Profession II

3. Maternal/Child Nursing

4. Pharmacology

5. Health Assesment

6. Community Nursing

7. Adult Nursing I

8. Adult Nursing II

Nobody can answer that here. The best way to get that information would be to ask students ahead of you. Thats your best bet but even then its always different for everybody so sometimes its better to risk and sell back then do bad in a class.

I personally buy all of my nursing books. Everything that we learn builds upon what we have already learned. You may need to use those books as a reference. That being said, I do NOT buy them at the school bookstore. I find deals online and usually buy new books cheaper than I can the used ones at the bookstore. Normally, the closer you get to the start of classes.... the higher the price of the books online. So shop as early as you can.

FYI Bookbytes.com has some great deals. I got a $200 book for $7.90 and it can in 4 days and is like new.

Thank you all for your responses. I have one more question. Did anyone keep any of their textbooks after their program ended? I'll be doing an accelerated program and would like to pursue my masters as well. Are there any general textbooks I should keep?

i bought all of mine because i never know when i may have to go back and look at it

I still have all of my books and they have hardly been used, my books came with electronic versions that were downloaded onto my laptop and my ipad.

If you can afford an ipad, I highly reccommend getting one. It is so much easier than lugging all of those books around.

I live in Canada so it's a little different...but I basically kept my med-surg, physical exam and health assessment, fundamentals and med texts for reference.

Oh and did anyone use a supplemental book throughout nursing school. For example, Kaplan's NCLEX, Saunders, etc?

I kept all my specialty books-- physiology, labs, pharm. They're out of date now, mumblemumble years later, but they got replaced by newer ones (and I got more specialty texts in other subjects) so they aren't lonely on the shelf. :)

I kept all of my books and reference them from time to time for school now (working on my masters)
