Wanted to get some opinions on this! I am applying for a program that requires you to take a few of the Nursing core classes before even applying - Pathophsyiology, Pharmacology, Dosage Calculations... I am taking all these classes this summer and am wondering if I should sell the books back or hang onto them in the future? Would you keep these books for reference/NCLEX study or sell them back? (I could really use the money to buy books for next semester!) How many of you used books from past semesters?
Thanks!!

Let's see.... we had pharm the first year of nursing school and I sold it back because I will be using my Davis's drug guide for reference. We don't have a separate patho-phys class or book but the path-phys is interwoven into the med-surg book and the specialties like peds and obstetrics. We absolutely needed some type of patho-phys reference to write up our patient preps but I don't believe you need that particular text book. Dosage calculations- I am surprised that people have entire classes and books on the subject. This is a pretty simple subject and the most I would want to keep around would be a pocket-sized reference guide.

It would be a good idea to sell them back if you make a conscious decision to do up to date reference buying later in your nursing career. However, I would suggest you keep the books at least until you finish your program. But on the other hand, you don't know when a new edition will surface, so you don't want to lose out on getting top dollar for your texts.
I think I agree with the Dosage text... I guess they figured since it's so important to know, it warrants an entire course (although it is much shorter than our other courses). I do have a smaller book called Math for Nurses so I think I'll just stick with that and at least sell the Dosage book back. Thanks!

I never used any of my books after the semester. Shoot I hardly used any of them during the semester :| I am not a textbook person.
See I figure I better at least keep my A&P book... Mi Vida Loca, I love the quote beneath your comment about anuria!
Yea I was laughing so hard when I read it. A&P does come up a lot in nursing school, with the internet though I found it easier just to look something up if I needed clarification.
Is there a good Patho reference someone can recommend? Our book was pretty general...

I would without a doubt sell the dosage calculation book unless you really have problems with the math!! Actually, if it were me, I would probably sell them all back while they're still worth a lot and if I decided I wanted to keep one later, I would just buy an older edition of it for a few bucks.

Textbooks just aren't my thing. Lol I don't learn that way.
So any thoughts on a good Patho reference to get? Edited to add: I do have Mosby's patho memory cards!
