Hey i was wondering if a few of you could tell me what the hardest part about nursing school has been for you?I plan on going next fall so any input would be helpful! Thanks in advance! Copy%20of%20wink.gif

It takes a lot of your time away. And when you finally set time aside to go do something else (like hanging out with friends, watching a movie, etc) you feel guilty because you aren't studying!

I have to say that the hardest part for me has been finances. I am in an accelerated program, which makes it next to impossible to work full time. I have gotten the loans and such that I need, but I had to get extra for living expenses. Every time I think about how much money I will owe when all is said and done, I get a little nauseous. Plus, we definitely had to make some serious financial sacrifices, and we live in the most terrible apartment because of it.

Well I am still new, I am going into my third week and don't start clinicals until next week (the 14th) so far the thing I have struggled with is adjusting to waking up at 6. I don't HAVE to wake up at 6, some days we start an hour or 2 later so I could sleep in those days but I rather just stick to one schedule. On clinical days (once a week this semester) I will have to be up at 4:30, but going from staying awake until 2-3 in the morning to making sure I am in bed by 10 so I get enough sleep has been a big struggle. I am hoping it gets easier and easier with each passing week.

Other then that everything has been extremely manageable, but again, it's still early. We had our first exam after one week and I have 2 exams this upcoming week so I am sure thing will pick up more.

Just a little bit of personal advice as well, if you have a spouse, partner, etc. make sure you make time for them as well. The last thing you want to have when you already have enough on your plate is relationship problems and I have yet to meet a spouse that didn't mind feeling neglected if they are in a good relationship.

So make time for them too. It will make things a lot easier. It may be hard when you are tired or feeling overwhelmed but just make it a point to your self to take like 2-3 days a week and go to bed a littler earlier and spend time with them :)

this is the advise i give as well to any nursing student...make time for your spouse!... :)

The hardest part for me was being away from my family & friends. I started in the summer and my program is accelerated. I am in class M-F 8-5 & on top of that I go to the library/ starbucks from 6-9/10 sometimes to study. The summer has passed me by & I don;t have time to eat/ sleep. My friends sometimes think I am just blowing them off, but my family has been very supportive. Then I am constantly reminded my my professors that if we don;t do XY&Z we will be dismissed from the program. The fall is going to be even harder bc I have PM clinicals WRF, & my son attends school during the day,, in reality I'm not going to see him @ all & it's killing me. Not putting down anyone elses circumstances, nursing school is tough, but I think it's especially harder for MOMs. I know it's only 1 year, but I feel like I've been in here 5 years. Best of Luck! Use this time to relax and hold on for dear life to your sanity.

Thanks so much to all of you who answered,I definitely have a better understanding of what NURSING school is going to be like. You all deserve two thumbs up!.Not only because of your helpful answers, but because of all the hard work you guys & gals are doing to get through NURSING school!Keep up the hard work, good luck & best wishes to you all!

I graduated this past April. I exercised regularly through my four years of nursing school. It gave me more energy, kept me from gaining weight, and was a great outlet for stress.

I would definitely recommend it!

Best to you,

This is my last semester, and I really should have thought of doing this my first semester as I am now 20 pounds heavier than I was when I started from sitting in one spot for long periods of time, snacking while I studied...

My biggest obstacles were (and still are) time management, and critical thinking. To rearrange your whole thought process is extremely difficult. Everyone has an area of difficulty, what may be a cake walk to one person, could be a struggle with another. Some people breezed through math, while I continue to struggle with it. It all depends on the individual... The wonderful thing about nursing is that there is an area of specialty for just about everyone.

Muwah to you all!

Reading and getting ready for a test....no time for friends and family.....less i forget, taking the hesi exit as well:banghead:

Thought of another one, a hard thing is NOT letting all the negativity of rumors about NS get to you and get you worked up. It's very hard not to get stressed and such at the thought of it all and then you start off in panic mode and stay in panic mode. I have seen many classmates do this. I ALMOST let myself do this, but I decided I waited a VERY long time to get here and damnit I was going to enjoy it and get the most out of it and so far I have not let myself get consumed with stress and am doing well. Had our second exam today (another one tomorrow) and so far without intense studying I have done better on my exams in NS then I did on my Pre Reqs. I have spent time with my spouse and my kids, watched my shows I love as long as it isn't past my new bed time :p then it's DVR and if something in class wasn't making sense I focus on understanding that, not studying the stuff I already know because I feel like all my time has to be consumed with NS.

waking up before 5 am.
