Although last semester was kinda rough with it being my first semester of nursing school im extremly excited and proud to enter my second semester with 4 more down to go!! Its going by kind of fast to me which is a great thing! Anyone else in their second semester? Is there anything you would change this time around?!:nurse:

Specializes in interested in NICU!!.

my studying habits for sure!!

i need to study more often and know the information when tests come around instead of trying to learn and remember everything 3 days prior to test day.

I need to work on my time management. I spent way too much time procrastinating last semester which led to things piling up which led to me being a giant ball of anxiety around exam time. And I need to force myself to remember that watching House does not equal study time, no matter how much I wish it did.

same here! i promised myself i would not procrastinate or wait to the very last minute to do anything!!

I can relate! I feel like last semester made me strong and ready to approach 2nd semester differently!

i am in the southeast, nc, and as many know we have had some snowy weather. classes were canceled today and tomorrow, sadly. i am doing well. i have managed to not procrastinate, and maintain a good workout routine. i am going to continue to do my best. :)

I start my second semester Thursday. I really do think I am going to have to make a study schedule and stick to it. We were advised to do so last semester, but I never did...I quickly saw that if there is a way for me to procrastinate, I will. So I am just going to try harder to study ahead of time.

Me too! I will be in the library more this time around!

Hi, everyone! I'm just about to enter my 2nd semester as well. First day is tomorrow, actually !

Last semester, I was constantly finishing up assignments and papers at the last minute. Our main classes are set up a little weird when it comes to assignments (main class last semester was Foundations and this semester it's Practical Nursing). We get a "master list" of about 35 different assignments to choose from. The list is grouped into 4-5 separate "mini lists". Each mini list corresponds to a test. Each assignment is worth 1 point, we have to do 25 assignments max, and you have to have the assignment done and turned in before the particular test it pertains to. Sounds confusing, right? Well, it is! So, before this semester starts, I looked at the master list and did my 25 assignments during winter break - that's 25 less assignments I'll have to worry about!

I REALLY want/need to keep ahead of assignments this semester. I also need to study more. With A&P (and all other classes I've ever had to take), I didn't really need to study. Ever. I would look at my notes the night before and I pulled all A's. Now, I'm getting two A's and one B. I KNOW I could do better - the tests annoy me, every test I've taken I always get around 90% - which is a B in NS world, but an A in normal world. I know if I studied more I would be able to pull A's. However, I get bored really easily with the reading and I get distracted with other things - recorded TV shows on TiVo, cleaning up after my daughter, care plans, cleaning up after my husband - anything to NOT have to study.

Not to hijack the thread - but does anyone have any studying tips they wont to share for someone like me? I have been diagnosed with adult ADD, but I take my meds and they REALLY help. It's just when I'm reading something really boring - you know, some of those text books are really written badly. On a related note - it would be so AWESOME if they made some sort of (fun) video game about nursing. Who's with me? How cool would it be if it were like The Sims, but you were a nurse instead? You could choose the facility you worked at (small town hospital, big city hospital, LTC, maternity, surgical, dialysis, etc.) and you could take care of patients and choose what to do to them - which would be great for relieving frustration as well lol. Sorry - just been thinking about that for awhile and how much easier I would learn if it were in a video game type format!

Although we all study differently some tips i would suggest would be 1st: stay organized and always prepared! 2nd: flashcards are an excellent way to generalize and memorize material definately if your a visual learner like me! 3rd: studyiing in groups seems to be more effective and helps you to get better understanding of the material sometimes! 4th: I use a memo board also to map any conceptual ideas i get and is very helpful! hope i helped! Good Luck this semester!:nurse:

OMG I thought i was the only one who prorastinated. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who struggles with that. For this semester...which officially begins tomorrow, i plan on making a study schedule every Sunday night for the week. If I right it down and see how my time looks for the week I am less likely to procrastinate and wait until the last minute. I also hope to fit some excercise time in!!!! Good Luck to everyone
