I'm starting my nursing school program in a few weeks for fall 2012 and I just wanted to know if you gain/gained weight or lose/lost weight. I'm getting different responses for reading the threads here on this website and I just want to know your opinion or personal experience and why.
Nursing school cannot make you gain weight.Last time I checked, it did not have the ability to pick up a bag of chips, put them in your mouth, make you chew and swallow. It also did not metabolize those same chips nor stick them to your hips.
You have the CHOICE to choose what does or doesn't go into your mouth. You have some bad habits? Check them at the door. There's no reason to gain 20, 30, 40+ lbs while in school. That's absurd. If you gain that much, I'd wonder about your eating issues in general vs. nursing school.
No, I'm sure everyone here LITERALLY meant that nursing school made them gain/lose weight. Literally. That's why no one talked about bad eating habits or food as stress management....other than those of us who did of course.

Society says what's on the outside matters, not the inside-obviously! This is the problem in this country!
BTW, eating disorder is still a disease, Nurse!
Be careful if you're the type who doesn't eat when stressed or eats less than usual when stressed. When you reduce your caloric intake drastically and consistently, it can have the effect of slowing your metabolism to match how little you eat - which can lead to rapid weight gain once you start eating normally again.

I started clinicals in January 2011 weighing only 117 lbs - i only have 3 semesters left and currently weigh 146 lbs! I'm in a part time program that consists of 8 semesters! I'm determined to study while using my treadmill and Eliptical and lose weight before I graduate next August 2013:-)
