Nursing Student admits online doing Ectasy and encouraging another how to do it .

I am SHOCKED by this nursing student's response to someone asking how to do illegal drugs on Yahoo Answers website. What sort of nursing student (A student about to graduate) would say these things? She could kill someone and she is going against the Nursing Code of Ethics. Is there anything to stop people like this? This totally shocked me. The Nursing Student answered the following question and both question and answer are as below:

Ecstasy experts I need some help?

Ok so I smoke pot allot and last night I tried ex for the first time and im not gonna lie I liked it. So I was wondering how long should I wait in between usage? And also ive heard stuff like drink lots of water, get vitamin C and E, take some type of tablet that you can buy from the store, it makes serotonin for your body.....Is this true? What should I do so it doesn't do AS MUCH damage to me (besides stopping you smart asses)? And also what helps so the come down isn't that bad? And what kind of ex should I really look out for? Please give lots of info?

(And for all the people who don't approve, or think its stupid, who cares?!? You can all just screw off just like your opinions and thoughts. I could care less what you think :)

ANSWER (FROM A NURSING STUDENT ABOUT TO GRADUATE):

I have done ecstasy at least 13 time within the past year and I think that at least once a month is ok... I am almost graduating from a nursing school with an A average. I have had a CAT/brain scan and eveything is completely normal. I feel that if you space your rolls that you will get high easier without a tolerance and that it is safer for you body... When you space them your body has time to readjust and get hydrated and all of the vitamins that you need back into your system... I wouldn't recommend more than 3 pills in one night. I have probably taken 26 pills in the last year, and like i said A average with no side effects. Do like you have been told or ask your dealer for good advice... Oh, and listen to techno ; ) drink water but don' gulp it down! Your intracranial cavity can retain water if you do gulp... Be safe and just pay attention to your body... Stay happy with your roll... and dont be stressed when you take it! Hope this helped :)

I don't mean to be on a soapbox, but I don't think that this nursing student is even TRYING to do the best she can. I agree that we should look at ourselves before we criticize others, but illegal drug use and telling someone else how to do it seems so WAY out of line. If you had this nurse to care for you and you knew that she had this attitude about her carreer and her brain, would you feel that you would be getting the best nursing care she was capable of giving?

i have a feeling that many nurses may not be giving the best care they can, due to lack of sleep, a weekend bender, overworked, too high patient ratio, etc. i doubt you'll be able to pick out the one who spent friday night eating pills and dancing to techno.

i wonder if this student thinks she's helping this person out. like i said, people are going to do things that are bad for them, giving them information to do it in a *less* dangerous way actually has its benefits (kinda like a needle exchange program).

i guess i'm liberal in my view that what goes on while you're not at work (as long as it doesn't spill into your work week) it not anyone's business.

then again, i have been a prostitute for 6 years on fri/sat, a gun runner during the summer, and i work international espionage for russia (but i still "get straight a's"). ;)

I thought it was funny that she said she had a CT scan... Why did she have an expensive CT scan? Just for fun? Who would order that for her.... "Gee let me see if my illegal drug use is having any negative effects on me" ...
Not to mention that a CT scan's not really going to reveal anything of interest. Now before-during-and-after EEGs and PET scans might be interesting...

Yep. Just show me the straight A's. I'm in favor of eliminating all background and clearance checks for the folks with the 4.0's. Just show up with the raggedy, dog eared transcripts, if they say 4.0 ... I say that's good enough to waive anyone into the super duper classified section.

I could care less what my nurse or doctor's gpa in school was. What would make me feel a lot better was if s/he wasn't smoking/huffing/inhaling or whatever for the past decade and figuring it was fine because after all s/he had a 4.0. :uhoh3:

funny how they're actually researching mdma and its positive effects during therapy.

*sigh*

gotta love that dare program.

anyways, i don't think i would be telling people that i was using drugs throughout my nursing-student career, but alas, this person has. there are nursing students that are probably doing a lot worse things out there too. yes, it is frightening to think that this person might be suffering from the miserable side effects of having been drained of all your serotonin and lacking sleep (oh wait- that's all nursing students). realize also, that not all drugs deserve this absolute villification. plenty of people are recreational drug users, not abusers. i truly believe in the efforts of harm reduction (people are curious, and there will always be drugs). i do completely agree for this person to toss in that they're a nursing student with straight a's was completely toolish, though.

p.s. ecstasy would probably come up on a drug screen, it is a form of methamphetamine.

p.p.s. think about how many times you've thrown out that you're a nursing student to help validate your opinion on health, or that you're constantly asked by family and friends for advice.

I was busted for having darvocet picked up on my drug screen. I had fx my elbow and taken some left over meds. I was lucky to have found the bottle and the Rx Dr of I would have been out of a job. This is not funny or to be taken lightly... on your own time or not. Don't know about you but I'm having a hard time getting a job I like with a clean screen!:twocents:

I don't get the arguement of "as long as it is not on school/hospital time..."

Some jobs you can leave at work. Others require you, not by law but by moral code, to lead your life to a higher standard. Police officer, firefighter, parent, teacher, doctor, nurse, and many many others. Whether or not you think some drugs (pot and appearantly some feel X) should be illegal or not, the fact remains that they are illegal. This person broke the law and I hold them to a high standard. I would not want their nursing care.

I would not want their nursing care.

and for my strawman of the day......

So if you were dying and a nurse who had smoked a joint sometime in her career was the only one avaible to provide care at the time, you'd rather die.

i've noticed that a lot of nursing students (nnot so much actual nurses) hop on a soapbox and cite the professionalism of their career to judge others.

Comes with service professions. Military boards are the same way. Everyone is gods gift on the net, me included.

MDMA metabolizes out of your system within 48 hours. So theoretically, a nurse can take a pill on a Friday night, dance to some techno, make out with some strangers, and come into work on Monday fully compatant and ready to deal with her patients. I think we need to separate the actual physical effects from the perceived moral hazards of doing drugs because we are talking apples and oranges.

Also, it is not implicitly illegal to be under the influence of any drug...only to buy it, be in possession of it, or be under the influence of it while driving. So she is technically not even breaking the law.

(BTW-I know all of this because I used to be a criminal justice major, not from personal experience :p)

I don't have a soap box, nor an egg crate for that matter. However, I do have something that every single one of you have, and that's an opinion.

Unfortunately, my opinion will not matter when it comes time for that nursing student to be held accountable for her/his actions.

Nursing is a profession. It's come a long way since Florence Nightingale and the prostitutes of olden times. We actually have standards of practice that are taken into consideration a court of law.

First and foremost it is calculated as to what a prudent nurse would have done in similar circumstances.

Somehow, I don't think 'using ecstasy' factors into what a prudent nurse would do. Perhaps someone else has a different interpretation of the professional code of ethics for nursing.

All of it just seems to risky to me. You work so hard to get into the program, why do anything to jeopardize getting kicked out? I sure wouldn't.

Again, it is not illegal to be intoxicated by ANYTHING in the privacy of your home. Freedom of speech is protected by the bill of rights. Being stupid, as far as I know, is not a crime.

I understand the need for standards and ethics and preserving the professional image of nursing. But how far does the ANA need to be breathing down your neck? When my husband comes home with a bottle of wine and wants to get frisky, do I need to be asking myself "what would a prudent nurse do in this situation?":uhoh21:
