Nursing in Spain

Was reading about comments previously made about nurisng in Spain. Being from spanish decendancy (mother, father) and daughter born in Spain. Comments made are totally wrong. The equiptment in Spain IS very much up to date. Do not forget that there are "private" and public hospitals. Families DO NOT have to go and bathe their patients or change the sheets as the comments stated.

Maybe this is a good time to give us a run down on what Spanish nurses do and how they work?

A co-worker was in Spain recently. Brought back a newspaper clipping. There was a 36+hour wait time to be see in emergency in Malaga. Staff were being laid off due to the economic conditions. There are regions in Spain where 20% unemployment is considered good.

Perhaps people were doing some of these things to help out the staff and care for their loved one?

As a nurse graduated in Spain I could give my point of view.

It is true what you said about equipment is update, public and private hospitals and family does not need to bathe their patients.

In the other hand, nursing is getting terrible for many reasons as:

- staff nursing are reducing, therefore, more work and more stress.

- Cut of salary around 250-300 € per month. (just public hospital)

- No expectations of professional growth (or you are known for "...")

- Bad ambient in many wards because everybody have been cut their salaries.

- If you work at private hospital you can earn 900€-1000€ at the best and giving thanks. In public hospital you can earn 1.300 € after cutting salaries.

And so on...

Just for context mapbguy, is 1000-1300 € a salary a person can live on? I'm assuming this is monthly pay. Thanks!

I could get you some ideas about Spanish situation:

- Rental monthly price of house, bills include: 500€. Not in city center, not in periphery. Just a common neighborhood.

- Food monthly expenses, 2 members in a family: 150-200€. This could vary depends on family.

- Metro monthly bono, eg. Madrid: 52€.

- Average breakfast price: 3-5€.

- Average menu price: 8-10€.

- Sport center monthly price: 35-40€.

- Ticket of cinema: 5-6€.

In my opinion, it is not enough to live comfortable in Spain. There are many many people who live only to work (can they save money with these prices?), therefore less intake and less jobs. The worst thing is that the average net income of a Spanish person is 824€ per month Spain: A thousand euros â€" a dream salary | Presseurop.eu: European news, cartoons and press reviews

Hope you get an idea about this situation. Regards!.

Interesting that the OP hasn't been back since she started this thread. Maybe she doesn't like what we are saying?
