Nursing Shortage

Is or is there not a nursing shortage? I have been told there is not a nursing shortage in Idaho and hospitals are not hiring new grads.

I always thought there was a shortage until coming here and seeing how many new grads are having a hard time finding work. So IMO....certain places must not be hurting too bad if they're not willing to give new grads a chance.

There is a shortage of experienced (ready to hire) nurses and there is a shortage of money for hospitals to spend orienting/training new grads. In other words some hospitals will sit forever with open positions available and still not hire new grads for lack of budget (or willingness) to train them, all the while complaining via the media that there is a nurshing shortage.

Any suggestions on how to go about getting experience? Will furthering my education make a difference?
