I am starting my ADN in September and would like to get some comfortable nursing shoes that will last. In my former life, I wore steel-toed shoes to work every day, so I am used to UGLY shoes. Any advice and/or recommendations are appreciated.

I favor New Balance myself.........they make them in all white, too, so you could probably get away with them for clinicals. I swear by this brand, as I can try on almost any pair they make and they fit just like they were made for me. :)
I second that! I have plantar faciitis and the doc recommended New Balance shoes. He was right. My foot used to hurt all day long, now with the New Balance it never bothers me until I take my shoes off.
I bought a pair of Dansko's when I first started nursing school. They were good shoes but between clinicals and working part-time at a hospital, they were always scuffed up. It got to the point that I could no longer cover the scuff marks with white shoe polish. So I bought a pair of Quarks.I love them! They are very lightweight and because they aren't leather, they always stay white. I can wash them off with a paper towel or disinfect them with a bacterial wipe. They are even more comfortable than the Danskos and they cost half the price. I have the clogs but they also have a closed back style. http://www.onlineshoes.com/productpage.asp?type=brand&brandid=77&brandcatid=589&gen=w&pcid=22572
Did you know nail polish remover will take the scuffs off? Its a trick my mom showed me way back to use on my church shoes :)
